Chattahoochee Hills Set to Adopt 2017Millage Rate

Chattahoochee Hills, GA – August 29th, 2017 -The City of Chattahoochee Hills Mayor & Council is poised to set the 2017 millage rate which includes a rollback. The current millage rate is 10.958 and has not been changed since 2009. The recommendation is to roll the millage rate back to 10.00. This is not only a reduced millage rate for property owners, it is also a timely tribute to the City’s 10th anniversary which is being celebrated this year.

All concerned citizens are invited to the advertised public meeting on this tax rate to be held at City Hall, 6505 Rico Road, Chattahoochee Hills, GA on September 12th, 2017 at 6:30 PM.

This tentative rollback will result in a millage rate of 10.00 mills, a decrease of 0.958 mills. The proposed tax decrease for a home with a fair market value of $125,000 is approximately $48 and the proposed tax decrease for non-homestead property with a fair market value of $300,000 is approximately $115.00. According to Mayor Tom Reed, “The Mayor and City Council have worked very hard over the past decade to ensure the City’s viability and provide the most necessary services while not raising our millage rate, even during the recession years when the revenue was not sufficient to cover all of our operational goals.”

“An improving economy, and limited development sympathetic to our community’s rural vision, have improved that financial picture. We are now able to actively expand and improve services to our community while also rolling back our millage rate for the first time in the City’s history! It’s only fitting that on our 10th anniversary year, I can recommend (with the enthusiastic support of my partners in the City Council!) some relief to our City’s property owners, by rolling back our millage rate to an even 10.00 (down from 10.958).” continued Mayor Reed.

The City offers a homestead exemption of $15,000 which must be filed prior to April 1st of the respective tax year. There are additional exemptions for seniors age 65 and older and age 70 and older. Seniors in those age brackets may also qualify for additional exemptions up to including a full exemption after age 70 under certain income restrictions.
