STAR Testing
Fulton County Schools will be conducting winter benchmark testing with the STAR basic skills assessments over the next two weeks (Jan. 21 - Feb. 7). STAR assessments are used to monitor student growth throughout the year, to estimate students’ understanding of state standards, and predict students’ performance on the state test. In addition, STAR can help teachers determine appropriate instructional levels and skills that students are ready to learn. The assessment is administered on the computer in a relaxed, but serious environment to obtain the most accurate results possible. The assessments take no longer than 30 mins. Teachers will administer these assessments three times a year in order to observe growth in these basic skills. As with any other school day, please be sure your child gets a good night's rest and eats a healthy breakfast.

5th Grade Parents
Over the weeks and months ahead, there will be several opportunities for you to learn about Crabapple Middle School. On February 10, CMS staff will visit Roswell North at 6:30 PM for a general information meeting for parents. A list of additional transition activities and dates can be accessed by going to our website .
Please note that you are welcome to, but not required to attend every transition meeting and event. Our transition meetings, PTA tours, and student events have been created so that families have the flexibility in their busy schedules to attend sessions most applicable and accommodating to them. Additional information about transitioning to Crabapple Middle School will be shared on our school website and in elementary school newsletters throughout the second semester. If you have any specific questions about sixth grade transition dates and events, please contact Ms. Hina Patel, CMS sixth grade counselor via email or phone 770-552-4520.
Deadline is Feb. 17 for Hardship Transfers
Applications are available for parents who wish to apply for a 2014-15 hardship transfer or to renew a current hardship to another Fulton elementary, middle or high school. Parents can use an online form, available through the “Parents” section of school system’s web site, to enter their information and then print it to obtain signatures and/or supporting documentation. Although using the online form will help expedite processing time, applications also can be picked up at all schools as well as the Fulton County Schools Administrative Center.
The deadline for submitting a transfer application is Feb. 17, 2014, by 4:30 p.m., with no exceptions or extensions granted. All requests must be received or postmarked by this date and time. Applications can be sent by mail, fax or hand-delivery to:
Fulton County Schools’ Student Assignment Office
c/o Meadows Operations Center
5270 Northfield Blvd.
College Park, GA 30349
404-763-5547 fax
In addition, school system employees who have children receiving an employee hardship transfer must renew their request through the Student Assignment office. Instead of employees submitting an employee verification letter from their school or location, this year the Human Resources Department will verify employment directly with the Student Assignment office.
The Feb. 17 deadline applies to students and parents seeking a hardship transfer for medical reasons, curriculum differences, and child care situations or for employees’ children.
Parents with questions or who need more information about hardship transfers can contact the Fulton County Schools’ Student Assignment Office at 404-763-5550 or visit
