Charter for Paul Smith’s College Students for Ecological Restoration
- Preamble: Centuries of unsustainable human activities have severely damaged the environment which upholds our economies, societies, and livelihood. The Paul Smith’s College Students for Ecological Restoration (hereafter known as PSC SER) exists to promote ecological restoration in regards to sustaining the diversity of life on Earth, as well as establishing a healthy relationship between culture and nature.
The PSC SER primary purpose is professional development and participation in activities that are in concordance with the basic requirements and expectations for student associations of the Society for Ecological Restoration, a professional organization focused on ecological restoration (ww.ser.org).
PSC SER has three principle goals:
- Active participation in and attendance at conferences and workshop related to ecological restoration sponsored by the Society of Ecological Restoration or other reputable organizations.
- Active participation in ecological restoration projects on the campus and properties of Paul Smith’s College.
- Active participation in ecological restoration projects in the Adirondack/North Country region, or abroad in other countries.
- Name: This student organization shall be known as Paul Smith’s College Students for Ecological Restoration until such time this student organization becomes approved and accepted as a Student Organization of the Society for Ecological Restoration. After that, the name shall be known as: Paul Smith’s College Student Association of the Society for Ecological Restoration.
- Officers: The President’s primary duties shall be three-fold: 1) serve as the voice of the members of PSC SER, 2) chair PSC SER meetings, and 3) promote active participation of PSC SER members in the goals of the PSC SER. The Vice President will assume the duties of President if the President is absent. The Treasurer’s duties will be to keep records that account for financial income and expenses. The Secretary’s duties will be to record meeting notes, archive the notes, and to make notes available upon request.
- Terms of Office: All Officer Positions shall last one academic year. The officers shall be elected into office by popular vote by the end of Spring Semester to provide for a transition before the next academic year. An officer may serve 2 terms if members approve so by vote.
- Meetings: Meetings shall occur once every 2 to 3 weeks during common time, or as needed and called by the President.
- Amendments: Amendments to this charter can be made by a vote with 2/3rds majority.
