After Hurricane Hugo swept through the area, he focused on helping to rebuild family homes before starting Charleston Freight Station. In 1995, he oversaw its move into the new facility in Wando. In 1996, the company became the Customs Examination Systems provider, a position it holds today and has held for 17 years. David and his wife Daisy live in Mt. Pleasant.

With experience in major markets including New York City, Washington, D.C., and San Francisco, he brings a breadth of experience to the Port of Charleston. A native of Washington, D.C., Adams holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Hobart College in New York, where he studied economics.
