Charles Farrar Foundation of Kenya

The 'Charles Farrar Foundation of Kenya' was formed with the sole purpose of identifying and assisting young individuals from under privileged backgrounds who show promise in the game of golf.

*The foundation seeks to provide these youngsters not only with the opportunities to play, but just as importantly to give educational assistance thus allowing them the chance to obtain sponsorship to international universities which will most certainly guarantee their future employment in the vast world of the golfing industry.

*The 'Charles Farrar Foundation' is seen as a national progression from the Golf Talent Foundation (G.T.F.) co founded by Charles Farrar and late Peter Githua, has, over the past few years promoted several young caddies who have progressed from the caddy ranks earning meager amounts to full club professionals earning decent livings. The most noticeable successes have been Kopan Timbe, Ali Kimani, Nicholas Rokoine, and most recently Paul Thuro who had just turned professional after a very successful amateur career at National Level.

Charles Farrar

*Known to be one of the finest teaching professionals in Africa Charles served his apprenticeship under the PGA tutelage of Brain Patterson at Sandy Lane, London England. Charles turned professional in his late teens and has been a long time member of The British Professional Golf Association.

Mr. Charles Farrar the National Team Golf Coach with KGU Chairman Mr. H. Kinuthia and H.E The President of Kenya Hon. Mwai Kibaki – The Patron of Golf in Kenya at State House Nairobi

*Since returning to Kenya, Charles has built a credible reputation of being the leading teacher of golf in the East Africa Region producing a number of Kenyan Amateur Champions most of which have progressed to professional ranks.

*Charles has been instrumental in developing all aspects of the game of golf in Kenya that has included improvements in the standard and maintenance of Kenya's golf courses. For example Charles assisted in the refurbishment of his then home golf course Muthaiga, which, is now probably the most updated and challenging course in Kenya.

*A passionate desire to improve the game of golf in the East Africa Region saw Charles recently undertake a 2year contract in Tanzania. Whilst at the Gymkhana Golf Club in Dar es Salaam not only was he the teaching professional Charles was honored to be the Tanzanian National Coach. During his time in Tanzania spotting potential star talent Charles was able to produce a Junior National Side of which went on to perform with amazing credit at The All African Junior Championships in Swaziland. All from disadvantaged backgrounds some of whom have been wretchedly made homeless among these young players are noticeably, Victor Joseph, Salehe Kessy, Salim Amani, Ali Sandi and, Christopher Andrea. Sadly orphaned Christopher has won many local tournaments, and, having achieved the handicap 9 has recently been fortunate to play in the Kenya Amateur Championships! Therefore it comes as no surprise that for the first time a Tanzanian won 2 Golfer of the year events for the first time in 2008. Using the passion and vision developed throughout his 40year career Charles has received much interest amongst Tanzania's young girls to achieve some significant success. This includes: Ayne Magome playing from a handicap 12 to a handicap 4, and who later was able to secure a scholarship to the USA: Angel Eaton who won virtually all tournaments at the Gymkhana Golf Club: Hawa Wanyecge

*The fundamental vision of the 'Charles Farrar Foundation' is to provide opportunities to the youth of East Africa, in particular the under privileged from all societies within East Africa to be given the chance with which to maximize their golfing skills whilst developing their education and personal development.

*Therefore the aim of the 'Charles Farrar Foundation' is to produce players who not only will succeed on the National stage, but to then have a possibility to progress in the game and the possibility of joining worldwide tour.

*The day-to-day operation of the foundation will be governed by:

•Sustainability •Observation •Evaluation
