Lesson 35: Ephesians, Part 8
“Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.” (Ephesians 6:10)
Chapter 6: Christians Live in the Armor of God
Read Verses 1-9
1. What is the relationship between Christian children and Christian parents? When is the only time a child may break this proper relationship and disobey his or her parents?
2. What does it mean to “exasperate” a child? What is a Christian father’s main responsibility in raising his children? How do many fathers today disregard this command?
3. Obviously, there are no longer slaves and slave masters in our society. But what can workers and bosses learn from the words of verses 5-9? Give SEVERAL ideas based on these verses.
Read verses 10-24
4. Why will a Christian want to put on the full armor of God? What can easily happen to us if we fail to put it on and keep it on?
5. The “belt of truth” and the “breastplate of righteousness” are both pictures of the gospel of Jesus. How does the gospel protect you when you are under attack from temptation?
6. The “shield of faith” is also used to put out Satan’s attacks, and the helmet of salvation absorbs his blows. We need to have this battle gear on us at all times to defend ourselves from Satan’s attacks. So why do Christians so easily fall into Satan’s temptations?
7. The “sword of the Spirit” is the only offensive weapon mentioned in this section. How can we use the sword of God’s Word to actually go on the offensive against Satan?
8. Finally Paul asks the Ephesians to pray for him. What is the very last thing he asks the Ephesians to pray for? What’s the lesson for us?
In Paul’s final greetings, he writes “Grace to all who love our Lord Jesus Christ with an undying love.” Indeed, grace belongs to all who trust in Jesus, because as we have learned throughout this letter: God uses all his power and grace in Christ for our good – in electing us, in saving us through his Son, in bringing us to faith in his Son, in working for his church, in building up his church, and producing good works in our lives.
