Champagne producer joins Cantina Terlano’s strong distribution network
Over the years and decades, Cantina Terlano has built up a dense and highly modern distribution network. Now the decision has been taken to open it up for the first time to a select partner, namely the traditional Champagne producer Legras & Haas. His aim is to penetrate Italy’s up-market restaurant trade and attract new quality-conscious customers to his brand.
In Italy, the market for sparkling wines is highly challenging, with large numbers of producers competing for orders from retail, sommeliers and the restaurant business. That makes it all the more important to have not only a top-class product but also a strong partner on the marketplace. With Cantina Terlano, the French winery Legras & Haas has now found an ambassador for its products that has both an established sales network in Italy and an excellent reputation.
“In addition to a focus on quality, we also share a common production philosophy,” says Klaus Gasser, Sales Manager in Terlano. “Like Champagne, our wines spend a long time maturing on the fine lees. In Terlano, the method goes back to our former winemaker Sebastian Stocker, who had a weakness for Champagne and still makes sparkling wines using the traditional method today. When you uncork Cantina Terlano’s mature vintages – after they have spent ten years or more resting on the fine lees in stainless steel barrels – they definitely have notes of Champagne,” Gasser explains.
For Cantina Terlano, the partnership means a valuable addition to the product range, as customers throughout Italy can now be offered top-quality premium Champagnes at reasonable prices: “I am convinced that, with our distribution system, we will be able to establish Champagne from the house of Legras & Haas on the Italian market.”
Legras & Haas is an exclusive winery with some 38 hectares of vineyards, most of them located on Grand Cru sites in Chouilly in Cote de Blancs, where Chardonnay reigns supreme. The imported range comprises five Champagnes: Brut Tradition, Rosé, Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru, Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Extra Brut and Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru Millesime 2008.
