Where’s the Mona Lisa?
The Mona Lisa is a famous painting. It is a picture of a woman with a very unusual smile. The great Italian artist, Leonardo da Vinci, painted it.
In 1911, someone stole the Mona Lisa from the Louvre, an art museum in Paris. There were many museum guards and visitors in the building. No one saw the robber. It was a mystery how he took the painting in the middle of the day! The robber just walked in and took the picture off the wall. Then he walked out of the room, went outside and ran away.
Hundreds of police officers looked for the robber, but no one found him. The police didn’t solve the mystery for two years. But then, the robber tried to sell the Mona Lisa to a man in Florence, Italy. The man called the police and they took the painting back to the museum. You can see it there today!
