Challenge Events Volunteer(Central Office)

Where, when and how often?
We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to volunteer in the Challenge Events team for 2 – 3 days a weekover a 3 month period, including some weekend volunteering.This role is based at our central London office.
How does the role make a difference?
Fundraising through challenge events is an important part of Alzheimer’s Society’s fundraising programme. We offer a comprehensive range of trekking and cycling events in the UK and overseas. We take pride in the customer care that we offer as this leads to repeat participation. This role will provide essential support to the Challenge Events team. You will help the team maximise fundraising by supporting the fundraisers on our treks, cycles,skydives and swims. As well supporting those who organise their own challenge events across the UK and abroad. Participants take part in events like the Mount Kilimanjaro trek, Ben Nevis Midnight challenge, Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, Ride London, and many other events.

What will I be doing?
  • Dealing with event enquiries
  • Responding to emails from the team inbox
  • Assisting supporters with their fundraising by giving fundraising advice and sending out materials
  • Calling fundraisers to thank them for their support
  • Courtesy calls to fundraisers
  • Updating participant database records with their online fundraising pages (JustGiving, Virgin Money Giving)
  • Writing and sending online newsletters
  • Sending out mailings and thank you’s to participants
  • Updating the charity database
  • Helping to recruit volunteers for events
  • Supporting the team when required

Is this role for me?
This is an ideal role for someone who is looking to join an events fundraising team at a charity.
We are looking for someone who:
•Is enthusiastic about charity fundraising
•Has some knowledge of cycling and trekking (desirable but not essential)
•Is able to work in a team and is able to work unsupervised
•Has good IT skills and knowledge of social network sites
•Has good interpersonal skills and enjoys talking to and motivating people
•Has good attention to detail
•Can understand and demonstrate a commitment to Alzheimer’s Society behaviours
and values.
What do I have to do before I can start?
We will short list and interview applicants and discuss the role further with the successful applicant. We will take up two references. You will have an initial induction when you start.
How will I be supported during my volunteering?
You will receive relevant briefing for the role
  • You will receive training on the fundraising database
  • You will be provided with one-to-one and team support
You will be reimbursed your agreed out-of-pocket expenses, in accordance with Society policy.
What’s in it for me?
You will be helping the Society by ensuring our fundraisers have the best possible experience fundraising for us. You will also be helping to maximise fundraising for the Society to help support people living with dementia.
