MINUTES

/

Chair: Elvina Chu

  1. Apologies: Chris Hollis, Anne Omotomilola, David Craufurd
  1. Attendees: Sridhar Sridharan (SS), George El-Nimr (GEN), Valerie Voon (VV), Nora Turjanski (NT), Stefania Bruno (SB), Elvina Chu (EC), Andrea Cavanna (AC), Niruj Agarwal (NA), David Okai (DO)
  1. Previous Minutes: SS produced copies of minutes from previous meeting and explained that there was confusion regarding the timing of the last meeting due to an incorrect announcement being made, in view of this turnout was very poor with only 4 attendees.
  1. Publications: Norman Poole has requested articles by the end of March for a special edition of “Neuropsychiatry News” which will feature articles on movement disorders. Contributors that have been identified are GE – clinical services for HD, DO – philosophy and Parkinson’s Disease, VV – functional movement disorders, AC – review of Tourette’s, EC – review of HD basic science and treatments, DC has also agreed to write a short piece on the historical setting up of the first MDT clinic in Manchester. NA also suggested Tom Barnes at Imperial College as another possible potential author.
  1. Future Movement Disorders Working Group Meetings: Most members of the group plan to attend the next section conference meeting in September. GEN mentioned difficulties travelling long distances to meetings. NA suggested that they may rotate venues and London is easy to get to from other places. The next SoN conference will be in Oxford and the Movt Disorders Working Group could hold their next meeting on the back of this.
  1. Website: VV explained that the North American Movt Disorders working group would like to have some joint working ties with us. Their chair will be sending in a summary report of the ANPA meeting that will go onto the website. The group discussed putting training videos on-line NT and GEN raised concerns about consent for videos of patients to go onto a college website.

NA commented that it would be a good idea to put in links to other useful resources on the webpage. SS noted that he could no longer access an on-line resource that he used before. AC suggested that everyone could email at least one link and reference to put on the webpage and this would help to rapidly populate the page.

  1. Conference in Movement Disorders: EC announced that it in September when she approached the conference organiser, it was already too late for the group to express an interest in holding a movement disorders session at the Royal College Annual Conference Meeting in London for summer 2014. GEN raised the point that few individuals who might be interested in such an area attend the college AGM as there are more relevant neuropsychiatry meetings during the rest of the year. NA suggested the group put forward a proposal for the next SoN conference meeting to be held in 2015, which is being organised by Mike Kerr (academic lead for the SoN).

ACTION POINTS:

  1. EC will request from the college any policy documenting guidelines and regulations about making videos of patients to put on-line.
  2. VV, DO, DC and EC will submit articles to Norman Poole by end of March for Neuropsychiatry News.
  3. EC will contact Mike Kerr and suggest having movement disorders in next year’s SoN conference programme.
  4. All to provide one reference and one link to resources that may be useful for readers who are on our webpage.
