CERTIFICATE OVERVIEW
Course Description
A portion of the HLTH2100 Course includes access to the online HIPAA Privacy & Security Certificate (“HPSC”). This certificate program lays the foundation of training for the latest standards required of all employees in healthcare. With the enactment of HIPAA's Standards, the responsibility to keep certain health information secure, confidential, and private has become a legally enforceable responsibility for a facility and its employees. To be successfully compliant, all employees must know and understand their responsibilities with regards to privacy and security of protected health information (PHI) in any form (paper, voice, or electronic). In the HPSC, a HIPAA Privacy and Security foundation is provided, and reinforce HIPAA education reinforced by reviewing pertinent terms, definitions and standards.

Online Access to Course Content
This course contains curriculum that is offered on an online learning system in partnership with HomeTown Health University (hthu.net).
As a first time user, to access material, please:
1. Click here to “Register as a new user.” Create a unique user login that will be used for the entire course. When registering, please make sure to select “University of North Georgia” under Organization.
2. You will be prompted to take the “New User Orientation” to learn how to navigate through the online system.
3. To begin, click on the course links provided below. Make sure that you allow enough time to complete the material according to the schedule. For each course, enter Coupon Code: “2100Fall2016”
4. At the end of each segment, there will be a quiz and evaluation in which you will be graded. A certificate will be provided upon completion; it is a requirement of this course that you turn this certificate of completion in to your instructor according to the schedule below, or a grade of ‘0’ (zero) will be awarded for the segment.

Course Description
This certificate program lays the foundation of training for the latest standards required of all employees in healthcare. In order to receive credit for the HPSC Certificate, you must complete all of the required courses listed above and all assignments within each course.
Learning Outcomes Conditions:
Listen to voiced course in its entirety.
Pass all assessments with a 80% or better.
Complete Certification Evaluation.
Handouts provided in Digital Library.
Glossary Terms provided in the Digital Glossary.
Assignment:
- Completion of online Certificate lessons; approximately 2 hours
- Print Certificateof Completion and turn in to Course Instructor by ______(date/time).
- Be prepared to discuss the application of content learned in this course as a part of your Final Exam.
- Identify individuals, other than the patient, and relationships as defined by the Privacy Rule that a healthcare provider may discuss PHI and situations where consent may or may not be necessary.

- Identify and understand practical behaviors that protect Protected Health Information
- Explain fines and penalties for HIPAA violations
- Apply privacy standards brought about by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) Privacy Rule

- Apply the hospital's policy on patient confidentiality
- Recognize examples and repercussions of patient-confidentiality breaches
- Identify what information can be released without prior approval from the patient

Printing your Completion Certificate: FAQs
How can I print a copy of my certificate once I complete a course?
Once you have successfully completed a course, you will see a red ribbon next to the course. Click the Print Certificate link and print it off your local printer. (Note: The course must be successfully completed)
I've completed the course, but I don't see the red ribbon to print my certificate?
If you feel you have completed the course but don’t see the red ribbon, go back to your course homepage, Launch the course, and make sure there is a Checkmark next to each Post-test AND Evaluation. Click on any Post-test or Evaluation that DOESN'T have a checkmark next to it and complete that action. Make sure you click the “Finish” button once completed. Once all Post-tests and Evaluations have been successfully completed, the red ribbon should appear and you can print your certificate.
