Notification of criminal offences

This applies to all currently registered chiropractors. If you are applying for registration for the first time, please include the details of any offences on the registration application form.

You must notify us within7 daysof any conviction, caution, reprimand or warnings you receive by filling in this form and returning it to us with the information requested.

What offences do I need to notify the GCC of?

You must declare all convictions, cautions, reprimands, and warnings, Fixed Penalty Notices or Penalty Notice for Disorders or equivalent in the UK or overseas.

Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974

The Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 does not apply to GCC registration.

What will happen if I tell you about an offence?

We consider having a police charge, caution, conviction, reprimand or warning as serious.

If you have been convicted of an offence our rules oblige us to automatically refer the case to our Investigating Committee, who will review the evidence provided and make a decision as to whether it should be referred to a full Professional Conduct Committee hearing.

If you have an offence other than a conviction the Registrar will review your case, taking into consideration all of the information you provided and then make a decision on whether or not it warrants a referral to the Investigating Committee. The Registrar will consider your own account of the circumstances that led to the offence, including any mitigating circumstances there may have been.

If you notify us of any offence after 7 days from the date of the conviction caution etc, the case will automatically be referred to the Investigating Committee on that basis irrespective of the offence committed. This is because you made a declaration as part of your last application to us that you would inform us within 7 days.

What should I send with this form?

1.  A statement giving the circumstances of the offence, including any mitigation

2.  An up to date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If you are unable to obtain one, it can be arranged through the GCC

3.  If you wish you can provide a supporting statement from someone of professional standing who is familiar with the details of the offence

4.  Any further relevant documentation, such as a court extract or GP report.

In cases where alcohol or drugs are involved

We will ask you to attend a health assessment with a consultant psychiatrist, which will be arranged either by the Fitness to Practice team in the case of a conviction, otherwise the Registrations team.
