HDRResearch Development Fund 2018

All HDR candidates in the Faculty of Arts Design are provided with a fieldwork allocation, but some projects, or unexpected opportunities, require extra support. The CCCR Research Development Fund is designed to supplement the Faculty fund and provide specialised support to HDR members of the CCCR. It aims particularly to support candidates in completing their research program, with a specific focus on projects that promote and supplement their research activities.

Proposals for funding should be built around specialised activities that provide an opportunity for the candidate to engage with their research field. These include:

  • supplementing conference funding;
  • promoting the candidate’s thesis research;
  • building networks and profile;
  • supplementing specific fieldwork activities (please note per diems cannot be funded).

Conditions for applicants:

  • Applicant must be an active HDR member of the CCCR;
  • In the case of funding for a conference, the applicant should be presenting a paper (either sole authored, or in collaboration), or be part of a panel;
  • Application must have the recommendation of their primary supervisor;
  • Activities must be in the year of application for funds; and any funds awarded must be spent and acquitted by the end of November of that year;
  • Applications for overseas funding must be submitted 4 weeks prior to travel
    (8 weeks prior is recommended);
  • UC travel approval forms are required to be submitted to the Faculty once funding has been approved in most cases (please see: and
  • Applicants may apply for up to $2000.

In addition, supervisors who are members of the CCCR are invited to work with a group of HDR candidates (minimum 3) to help them attend and present at a peak body conference or symposium, and to apply for supplemental funding to support their attendance, where it is considered that attendance would be of significant benefit to the candidates and to the research centre. Supervisors may apply for up to $500 per HDR candidate.

Applications for 2018 are currently accepted at any time until October 31, 2018.
