Service Procedures:

Personnel Responsible: AM Open Person

Each Week: At the Gas Detection Panel in the electrical room, check the reading for each sensor. The “Hold” button on each controller will release the display to scan through the channels. Sensors reading outside of 13% to +3% LFL when no gas is present at the sensors must be calibrated. The procedure for calibrating the gas sensors is in the Det-Tronics instruction manual in Sec. 9 of your Operation and Maintenance manual.

Personnel Responsible: AM Open Person

Each Month: The following devices should be tested for proper operation: Horns, Strobe Lights, Emergency Lights, and Hazardous Exhaust Fans. The manual switches for each of these devices are located on the front of the Gas Detection Panel.

Personnel Responsible: Class I and II Mechanic

Each Week: Calibrate all gas sensors as explained in the Det-Tronics instruction manual in Sec. 9 of your Operation and Maintenance Manual. A test form is shown on Page 32 of the Det-Tronics manual.

Calibration Procedure for Natural Gas Sensors in Garage:

  1. Unscrew large black cap
  2. Plug meter into sensor (meter will get its power from the sensor’s circuits)
  3. Use the “zero” screw (on the sensor) to adjust the reading to “0”
  4. Snap the line, from the test-gas bottle, to the sensor and then open the valve on the bottle
  5. Adjust the “span” screw (on the sensor) until the meter reads “50” - Note: The test-gas is at a concentration of 50% of the level needed for explosion
  6. Push the “sensitivity” button on the meter and hold, the meter should read 15 or more – if it does not, the sensor is bad (the instructions are on the bottom of the meter)
  7. Close the valve on the bottle and remove test-gas line from the sensor
  8. Wait until the meter reading is below “10” before removing the test-gas line from the sensor (to avoid triggering the alarm) – Note: The meter will be giving the system monitor a false reading during calibration to avoid triggering the alarm
  9. Remove meter
  10. Fill out and place a calibration tag inside the big black cap

  1. Replace cap – turn on a minimum of five turns, cap only needs to be “hand-snug” Page 2
