Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Certified Athletic Trainers Meeting Minutes

January 6, 2015- Happy New Year!

  1. Call to Order

1.1. Meeting was called to order at 11:15pm by Ed Gilberti.

1.2. Introduction of all members

1.3. Dr. Rice was thanked for his presentation before the meeting on Rhabdomyolysis

and the athlete.

There was no discussion of the minutes from 5/13/14

2.2. Vote to approve minutes

Motion by Kevin Joyce, second by Kevin Drew, all school representatives voted unanimously to approve minutes.

  1. Update contact information

Penny Foland passed a contact information sheet around to make sure all information was up to date. Please contact her with any changes.

  1. Commissioner’s Update/NCAA Update- Dan Mara

4.1. Conference Grants- The CACC is currently paying each institution to get IMPACT

Concussion (or a substitute) and the ISTRIKE Lightening Service (or a substitute). The conference pays for these services so if your institution does not have them yet get them.

4.1.1. Phone apps- ISTRIKE has an app for your phone and there’s another

lightening service- Coach Smart that is also a phone app.

4.1.2. SWAY Balance – uses your smart phone to test balance for concussions-

easy uses on sidelines- ask Penny Foland if you have any questions. Contact person she uses is Patrick Philips- 917-583-2098

4.2. Best Practice- In the May 2014 meeting, it was approved to develop Best Practice

Policy to Safeguard Athletic Participation. It is understood that this document would be used as guidelines and recommendations. A committee was formed with Monica Surguine (Goldey Beacom) as the chair. Monica is no longer with the CACC. Jim Dolinger (Goldey Beacom) was nominated- motioned by Lauren Mastrobuoni, seconded by Kevin Drew, and unanimously elected as the new chair. The other members will remain the same- Felicia Chianese (Concordia), Joe Friedrich (Georgian Court), and Adam Olsavsky (Philadelphia). Goal is to have a draft to present to this group in May, done by Jan 2016, and presented to the Director’s in May 2016.

4.3. CACC- Doug DeBiase has joined the CACC as the Assistant Commissioner for

Strategic Communications.

4.3.1. Social Media- CACC is using more social media- this increases hits to

both the CACC website & the individual institutions & vice versa. Go onto the website & see!

4.3.2. CACC Hall of Fame- President Council elected to start the CACC Hall of

Fame. Looking to elected 3-4 every year, maybe more in the beginning until we are caught up. Ben DiNallo from Felician College is the chair. The goal is to honor the individual at their institution and invite them to their sport CACC Tournament Banquet.

4.3.3 Track & Field Championship- Still looking to strengthen the Woman’s

Track & Field in the conference- need more conference schools not only

sponsoring the sport, but making sure those that do sponsor it have the adequate number of participants so we can have a conference tournament and automatic bit. Men’s Track & Field will have a championship tournament this year.

4.3.4. Honorable Mention has been eliminated from the Conference Statistics.

4.4. The NCAA Conference this year will be in Washington, DC

4.4.1. Low rank NCAA Division I teams may be looking to go Division II- this

will affect all of us at Division II

  1. EATA- Georgian Court, Chestnut Hill, and Holy Family are going.
  2. NATA- Let’s get a count in May of who is going and Ed Gilberti will try to get one of our vendors to sponsor a get-together.
  3. CACC is now a New NATABOC CEU Provider!!!!!- A big thank you to Kevin Joyce and Hannah Hallissey of Post!!!!!!! Thank you to the CACC for funding the process!!!!!!

7.1. Each Institution can now sponsor their own program, whether it is at their location

or off campus, under the CACC Provider Number---- AS LONG AS YOU ARE

THE HOST! Any questions, feel free to contact Kevin Joyce at Post.

7.2. We can be the presenter or any expert on our campus- this means we can present

or have a nutritionist, nurse, strength coach, etc--- as long as it falls under

one of the 6 Domains of an Athletic Trainer. Don’t forget, if you are the

presenter, you not only get CEU’s for presenting, but also for attending !!!!!

  1. Old business- no old business was discussed.
  2. New Business

9.1. Concussion Education- It was asked what we all use as a way to educate our

students, coaches, parents, etc on concussions. Joe Friedrich suggested

Concussion Wise. This is a program developed by ATC’s in New Jersey under Sport Safety International. It is a free online program where you can go to for concussion education. It provides courses that your coaches, athletes, and parents can take on their own time and get a certificate printed out good for 1-year. Georgian Court requires all their coaches and athletes to take this course yearly.

9.2. Vice President Nominations- Due to the leaving of Monica Surguine, a new

CACC Vice President needed to be elected for the remaining of this term. Kevin

Drew was elected unopposed as the new Vice President.

9.2. May 2015 CACC ATC meeting- If anyone has a presenter, wants to be a presenter,

and/or wants to host the May 2015 meeting- email Ed Gilberti ASAP. May 2015

meeting location and time TBD.

  1. Adjournment- 12:29pm Ed Gilberti motioned that the meeting be adjourned. It was second and all were in favor, none apposed.
