LEADERSHIP TEAM MEETING MINUTES

October 16, 2012

Attendance: Jackie Curl, Jerry Huffman, Joe Lambright, Georgia Mergler, Norman Plair, Jenni Roer, Amy Russell, Kara Ware, Jennifer Wilder, and Bob Yux.

Chair Jackie Curl called the meeting to order at 12:37 p.m.

Chair Report: Jackie reported that 750 pieces of CWDC letterhead and 500 envelopes have been printed, giving the council roughly 850 letterhead and 750 envelopes.

She also noted that the leadership slate is up for review and approval this coming February and that Leadership Team members are encouraged to provide recommendations for new member involvement. She added that our thoughts are with past and present LT members who have experienced personal illness or the illness of a family member in the past year.

Approval of Minutes: Norman Plair moved to approve the August 8, 2012, Leadership Team meeting minutes and Jennie Roer seconded. Motion carried.

Treasurer’s Report: Norman stated that the CWDC balance of funds is $21,780.94, with $2,590.92 in checking and $19,190.02 in savings. He stated that the council’s taxes were at the accountant for review and would be submitted by November 1st to meet state and federal guidelines. Norman stated that donations have been received from Joy Tourism & Travel, Washington Township, Hithergreen, and from individual members Reppert and Lambert.

Fund Development Report: Joe Lambright reported that donation request letters have been sent to businesses and this year he expanded the list to include those members of the SMCOC that reside in the city or township. He stated that letters would be sent to individuals in a second mailing next month.

Committee Reports:

·  Membership Development: Jenni Roer distributed the roster to the leadership team.

·  MLK Breakfast Committee: Kara Ware reported that Reverend Graetz is confirmed as speaker. Bob Daley has completed a press release and will write a column for the CWT Times as well. Reservations can be made at City Hall beginning November 26. The invocation and closing prayers will be done by Amy Russell and a local leader from the Baha’i faith.

·  Programs & Education: Amy Russell reported on plans for the Voices & Stories program. Six speakers providing five presentations have been confirmed. Professional actor/director Alan Bomar Jones is directing. Fliers have been printed and will be emailed to the membership as well.

Georgia announced the upcoming forum to be held on October 25 at the library. Tom Wahlrab will speak about a program that aims to make Dayton immigrant friendly.

Georgia also passed out information on Traces of the Trade, planned for March 21 & 22, 2013. The leadership team discussed the proposed program format. NCCJ & the Dayton

Dialogue on Race Relations will be contacted to have a booth/info table at the event for people to learn how to get involved. It was also discussed that the CWDC is trying to get local churches involved in order to continue the conversation and possibly have a community reconciliation service.

Bob stated that for the portion of the program at CHS, the teachers are determining which classes will be involved.

Jackie stated that the CWDC will coordinate transportation for the speaker on Thursday and Bob confirmed that the schools will do so on Friday.

·  Community Projects: Jackie reported that the contest form has been distributed through the school system. Laurie Montano is coordinating the judging and will work on a display of winning entries for the MLK breakfast.

·  Publicity: Jackie reported that a Publicity Committee press release about the coloring contest ran in the CW Times and that the committee has prepared fliers and other publicity for Voices & Stories, the Forum on Immigration and MLK Breakfast. Amy Russell, Alan Bomar Jones and she will be interviewed about Voices & Stories on the Centerville Reports television show.

Announcements:

Jackie announced an upcoming program at UD called “Losing Alicia on 9/11; A Father’s Journey.”

The meeting was adjourned at 1:45 pm.
