Center for Performance Program

The Centre for Performance program is a training centre concept intended to identify and develop elite-level Canadian basketball players at a young age. This nationally directed initiative is designed to teach individual offensive and team fundamentals while presenting aspects of sports science that are necessary to become a high level player and coach.
With the support of provincial basketball associations across the country, the program provides a systematic, thorough and unified national approach to identify and develop outstanding junior basketball players in every province and territory in Canada.

Athletes currently in grades 7, 8 & 9 are eligible to tryout for the Junior program while athletes in grades 10, 11 & 12 can tryout for the Senior program.If you are considering trying out for U13 & U14 club rep teams and U15 and U17 Provincial teams next spring, you really should be part of this training program.

Participation involves:

Selected athletes must be available to attend training sessions, including the sport science sessions (Fitness, Sport Psychology and Nutrition).

The cost for the program is $200 per athlete;Payment options are available.

Selected athletes will have the opportunity to train with the best athletes and coaches in the province.

Basketball PEI is very excited to be able to partner with UPEI and Holland College teams coaching staff to deliver this year’s CP program.

Tryouts are scheduled for Sunday, September 15thfor all Junior and Senior groups, at Charlottetown Rural High School. Tryout times are as follows:

Junior Girls – 10:00-12:00

Senior Girls – 12:00-2:00

Junior Boys – 2:00-4:00

Senior Boys – 4:00-6:00

If you are interested in trying out for the CP program, please complete the attached application form and return it to the Basketball PEI office by September 13th or bring it to the 1st tryout session (mandatory).

Athletes will receive training gear (reversible jersey and shorts) and a complete schedule of all Centre for Performance sessions upon selection. Most training sessions will be held on Sundaysuntil the school basketball season begins. Additionally there will be day camps on select holidays. Subsequent gym locations, dates and times will be announced once athletes have been selected.
