Time Commitment: 8:30am – 11:00am between Monday – Friday depending on availability

What does Centrepoint do?

Centrepoint’s services are a place that our homeless young people can call home. We do provide a safe place to live but also offer the caring relationships and sense of belonging that go with being 'at home'. We provide our young people with health support and teach them life skills. We help them to manage their money, offer educational and employment support and support them to contribute to the communities they are part of.

The young people we work with are between 16 and 25 years old and come from a wide variety of backgrounds and nations. When we first meet them, allare homeless or at serious risk of becoming homeless; many are on a downward spiral having had difficult starts in life.

What team will I be supporting?

Hostels based in the London Borough of Camden that support young people with high support needs.

What will I be doing?

This role is an opportunity for a committed volunteer to use their passion for cooking and group activities to help engage Centrepoint’s Young People and provide them with a positive, healthy platform to begin a productive day.

You will support with the running of the Breakfast Club which aims to provide a healthy, positive start to a young person’s day with the hope that their day will continue in the same way.

You will be one of two volunteers working with a group of young people at a Centrepoint hostel one morning a week (Monday – Friday from 8.30am – 11am).

Your tasks will include:

·  Cooking a healthy breakfast (including preparation and cleaning up)

·  Creating a friendly, positive atmosphere

·  Encouraging young people to engage in a conversation or facilitating group discussions

·  Supporting the running of a wide range of activities; such as board games, trip to the park, exercise DVD, badminton etc

·  Developing and maintaing positive relationships with the young people and motivating them to engage in opportunities

·  Empowering young people to make decisions in order to realise their full potential

What skills and attributes do I need to have?

·  Be committed, reliable, responsive and flexible

·  Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a diverse range of backgrounds

·  Demonstrate a resolute approach to problem solving

·  Ability to work independently, on own initiative and without constant supervision

·  A good knowledge of healthy eating and lifestyles

·  In possession of a food hygiene certificate or willing to work towards

·  A commitment to demonstrating Centrepoint’s values of being innovative, inspirational, professional and empowering
