Cell Analogy Project

Now that you have learned about the organelles in a cell, you need to think of an analogy, comparing the cell and its organelles to something of your choice. This project should be on paper LARGER than notebook paper, and should be in full color. The following criteria will be graded:

-Make sure you include a labeled picture of what you are comparing your cell to. If you’re comparing the cell to a soccer field, you need to have a picture of a soccer field with the cell parts labeled.

-Make sure you list and compare at least 8 organelles to something in your picture

-Make sure you include a key that tells which organelle compares to which part of your analogy.

-Make sure you include a chart with the function of each part of your analogy, and why it is like the organelle.

Please choose ONE type of cell (plant or animal), and check off each organelle as you add it in your chart:

Plant Cell

⇫ Nucleus ⇫ Mitochondrion⇫ Chromatin

⇫ Cell wall ⇫ Cell membrane

⇫ Chloroplast ⇫ Ribosomes

⇫ Golgi body ⇫ Endoplasmic reticulum (Rough or Smooth cannot pick both)

⇫ vacuole⇫ lysosome⇫ Cytoplasm

Animal Cell

⇫ Nucleus ⇫ Mitochondrion⇫ Chromatin

⇫ Cell membrane⇫ Cytoplasm

⇫ Lysosome ⇫ Ribosomes

⇫ Golgi body ⇫ Endoplasmic reticulum (Rough or Smooth cannot pick both)

⇫ Contractile vacuole

Please attach this checklist to your analogy Due ______9-24-15______

Example: the CellCity

• The nucleus of a cell is the main control center of the cell. It holds all of the information needed for the cell to function properly. Therefore, it is like city hall because this is where the information, policy and governing is done to run the city.

• The mitochondria of a cell are where energy (ATP) is created through the breakdown of glucose(fuel). In a city, the power plant would be similar to a mitochondria because this is where electricity (energy) is made from fuel (coal).

Analogy worksheet is due September 17, 2015
