Community Life Pastor

Accountable to: Senior Pastor

Candidate Requirements:

1) Born again Christian, desiring to grow in relationship with Jesus Christ.

2) Active member of West Hills Community Church.

3) Completion of (or advancement towards) Bible College or Seminary degree.

4) At least 3 years experience in a pastoral/shepherding position, either volunteer or staff.

5) Male.

Brief job description: We have a growing church family in need of shepherding the leadership of discipleship and member care ministries. *This position will include leading and expanding the Home Group ministries as a means of member connection and discipleship. We currently have twelve active Home Groups. *This position will keep track of attendance and newcomers, including visitor information and contact. *This position will also include leading an Adult Bible Class on Sunday Mornings OR a Home Group Midweek. *This position will also include fill-in preaching up to six times throughout the year.

Home Group Coordination:

1. Organize the launch of home groups in September.

  1. Contact previous leaders to assess continuation of service.
  2. Coordinate a planning meeting with Bible Study Leaders and Hosts.
  3. Identify and develop new leaders for new groups (hosts, shepherds, Bible Study leaders).
  4. Implement and support the launch of new groups.
  5. Coordinate an open house to launch fall start-up and Home Group sign-ups.

2. Facilitate the process of placing new people into groups.

  1. Prepare a Home Group brochure listing purpose and roster of groups to be used in open house and placed in lobby resource center.
  2. Talk with specific people/families to determine best fit.
  3. Communicate with group leaders about potential new attendees.
  4. Continue the placement process throughout the year.

3. Attend a Home Group (if you don’t lead one)

4. Work with Bible Study Leaders to choose curriculum.

  1. Provide quality, Biblically based, pre-written Bible Studies as an option.
  2. Be available as a sounding board for discussion on curriculum.
  3. Verify that each group has chosen an appropriate Bible Study topic or study.

5. Follow up throughout the year with each leader and host.

  1. Schedule individual meetings with the various leaders for one-on-one support (e.g. askingthem what they need help with, what resources they need, what challenges they are running into, etc.).
  2. Pray for the ministry and the group leaders.

6. Visit each Home Group meeting throughout the year.

Prayer and Visitation Coordination:

1. Recruit and develop participants for the Visitation Team.

  • Work with church volunteer to develop prayer and visitation leads from Sunday morning cards.
  • Work with church volunteer to scan attendance into database and print out a Sunday Service absentee report. Correct errors and omissions in church database.
  • Work with church volunteer to keep attendance & new member list off cards.
  • Update and print out quarterly attendance sheets for morning worship service, adult Sunday school classes,

Bible Study Groups, and Wednesday evening prayer service.

  • Keep an updated Sunday school class roster w/ locations at Welcome Center.
  • Maintain a list of newcomers and track attendance.
  • Attempt to track attendance of people who don’t fill out Connection Cards.

2. Meet monthly with the Visitation Team.

  • Work with church volunteers who are visitation assistants.
  • Pray for people visited.
  • To see if goals are being met.

3. Inspire and mobilize the participants on the visitation team to:

  1. Visit all shut-ins and seniors on a regular rotating basis.
  2. Visit people in the hospital.
  3. Visit newcomers in coordination with the senior pastor; provide gift bags to first time visitors.
  4. Build a notebook with list of all these people.
  5. Maintain records of all visitations. (Recorded in Power Church database.)

4. Have a regular plan of pastoral visitation in coordination with the Senior Pastor.

5. Work with Deaconesses in their commitments to visit widows andthe sick and ill.

  1. To make sure there isn’t overlap w/ visitation team.
  2. Coordinate with deaconesses and help with list of widows.

6. Maintain attendance records for adult Sunday school, morning worship service, Home Groups, and Wednesday prayer service.

Teaching:

1. Teach a Sunday Morning Adult Bible Class OR a Home Group.

Pulpit Supply:

1. Shall be prepared to preach when the Senior Pastor is absent, up to six times per year.

Compensation:

1. $18,000 annually.

3. Vacation: Two weeks per year or as negotiated

Development:

1. The senior pastor will meet weekly with the Community Life Pastor for ministry and personal development.

2. The church will pay for and encourage the Community Life Pastor to attend at least one local conference or training session of his choice per year.
