Unit Overview
The Writing Center provides one-on-one in-depth writing coaching for students, faculty, and staff at the College of Coastal Georgia. During our coaching sessions, we work on developing writing skills by teaching writers about patterns of errors, expectations in writing styles, and what it means to be a writer at the college level.

Key Goals for 2016-17 Alignment with Coastal Vision 2021 Goals & Objectives

·  Assist students with their writing goals.[1]

·  Assist faculty with their goals for the teaching of writing in their courses.[2]

·  Increase conversations about plagiarism on campus.[3]

Points of Pride / Strengths

·  Ninety-six percent of students served during the last year reported that their sessions were “very helpful” or “helpful.”

·  Ninety-nine percent of students served during the last year reported an increase in their writing confidence after a session.

·  Writing Center one-on-one sessions and in-class presentations have increased in number every year since opening in January 2012.

Challenges

·  Technology is outdated, making online tutoring nearly impossible (new computer has been ordered).

·  Little funds available for writing center coaches to travel to attend writing conferences or present their research at them.
