College Goal Sunday

Miller reported KVCC was one of 27 sites in the state of Michigan to host College Goal Sunday on February 12, 2007. This is the fourth year of participation. The first year there were 94 people in attendance, second year there were 128 participants, third year there were 105 participants, and this current year there were 150 participants. Miller distributed the evaluation results of this event. Financial aid personnel from area colleges were available to assist students and parents with the completion of their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). A financial aid presentation was also conducted. Those who participated from KVCC were: Mike Collins, Mimi Johnson, Bob Bechtel, Joy Arra, Pat Pallet, Bonita Bates, Sommer Hayden, Shequella White, and Sue Newington.

Kalamazoo Promise

Miller reported that 117 students were enrolled and eligible for the Kalamazoo Promise (KP) for the 2006 fall semester, and 114 students were enrolled and eligible for the 2007 winter semester. He also reported that KP students need to be enrolled full-time to access their scholarship. A few students were given permission by the KP Director to use their Kalamazoo Promise scholarship for less than full time enrollment. To remain in academic good standing for this scholarship, students must complete and pass at least 24 credit hours with a minimum 2.0 GPA by the end of the academic year (summer). Academic progress will not be monitored during the summer semester. This will give students the chance to make up any credits they may have been short from fall or winter semester. A list of students who did not meet academic standards for the fall semester and enrolled for the 2007 winter semester were referred to the StudentSuccessCenter.

Attendance Monitoring: E-CARs

Miller reported that no winter semester financial aid balance checks were held due to outstanding E-CARs. He extended kudos to the deans’ secretaries for their assistance with this process.
