CBDRR Program Launched and Inaugarated by BDRCS S Chairman at RRF TARC, Ramnagar, Razarhat
- CBDRR program launched and inaugarated by BDRCS’s Chairman at RRF TARC, Ramnagar, Razarhat, Jessore on 22 September 2012.
- Vulnerability Capacity Assessment (VCA) successfully conducted in the ten communities of CBDRR program in the districts of Jessore, Satkhira, Bhola and Jamalpur. A total of 460 people participated from 10 communities (184 male and 276 female) Eleven VCA participatory tools were utilized to identify local hazards, capture seasonality of climate and non-climate impacts, vulnerability of major livelihoods, natural resources and land use, historical trajectories of extreme climatic events and people’s coping strategies to tackle impacts of local hazards as well as capacities of locals. A three-day orientation was conducted in Jessore and Bhola upon completion of the VCA. A pool of ten VCA facilitators was engaged in the process to ensure quality application of VCA tools.
- Formation of community based organizations like CDMC (16 members in each of community – 94 male and 66 female) and CDRT (25 members in each community – 147 male and 103 female) which brings about ownership of the program and participatory decision making process among the individuals in the community. 160 members
- Active contribution of the tartgeted communties (282 male and 262 female) in developing the community PoA and Participatory Budgeting.
- Development of Project Implementation Committee (PIC) in four districts, totalling 29 members (25 male and 4 female). PIC members consist of 7 people from three respective Unit and 8 people from Bhola where there is 2 APO.
- Building partnership with relevant actors through inception workshop at the district level, which was attended by representatives of local administration, civil surgeon, District Chairman, District Press unit, Fisheries department, Youth Development department and public health engineer. This was important in terms of strengthening collaboration with various stakeholders and thereby increasing accessibility to local services.
- Monitoring visit by Swedish Red Cross to the targeted communities of Dhalchar, Bhola and Kulakandi, Jamalpur offered understanding into BDRCS’s CBDRR program at the community level and continually to build relationship Swedish Red Cross for a longer commitment for the CBDRR program. The Swedish Red Cross delegates also observed a mock simulation drill on cyclone early warning. The mock drill was conducted in Dhalchar, Bhola for 2,500 people (1,125 male and 1,375 female).
- Conducted baseline and household survey to have a benchmark of current community risk and capacities that will be evaluated at the end of the project implementation

- Conducted cyclone mock drill at charpatila community with a view to enhancing the ability of community people and other stakeholders to respond faster, better and in an organized manner during pre and post disaster period
- organized VCA Facilitator’s Step by Step guideline in order to contextualize the VCA process in line with disaster risk reduction and climate related issues at both urban and rural contexts
- 10 CDMC and 10 CDRT meeting in 10 communities
- 4 meetings of CDRT and CDMC at 4 communities - Charpatila, Dhalchar under Manpura, and Charjatin, Dasherhat under Charfessionupazila of Bhola district to build a relationship with CPP volunteers
- Hired a consultant to develop IEC materials contain the message on DRR and climate change, early warning message (flood & cyclone, household level preparedness, first aid and light search and rescue, wash, housing, livelihood, health and education.
