Gifted Academy for Parents

The CUSD CATS program is proud to offer the Gifted Academy for Parents. This series of workshops caters to CATS parents, providing tips and tools that will help in parenting gifted children.

All workshops are FREE. Location information is provided at the time of registration.

Registration for workshops will be available through the CUSD CATS calendar online Enrollment is limited. You must register to attend.

6pm – 8pm / Pediatric Neuropsychologist, author, and international speaker, Dr. Paul Beljan has 25 years of experience as a mental health clinician, providing psychotherapy and assessment services for adults, adolescents and children.Dr. Beljan’s professional focus is on Gifted Intelligence, among other specialties.

6pm – 8pm / Professor, School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at Arizona State University, Dr. Marilyn Carlson is a national speaker and the author of more than 60 published and presented research papers. She has traveled to study school mathematics as practiced in China, Japan, and Singapore, and is engaged in national efforts to improve U.S. programs that educate and support teachers, including the Teachers for a New Era project led by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.

6pm – 8pm / CUSD Assistant Director for Gifted Education, Diane Hale will provide participants with helpful tips and strategies for parenting gifted children in an ever-changing world. Her experience with the CUSD gifted program and expertise on gifted children will highlight this discussion of essential skills for parents of gifted children in the 21st Century.
Navigating to High School and Beyond / TBD / This open house format will provide parents a sneak peek at the programs, opportunities and avenues available for gifted students in CUSD high schools. Representatives from each High School including CATS alumni will be on hand to answer questions.
The Leader in Me - Leadership Skills for Gifted Learners

6pm – 8pm / Darcy DiCosmo, Elementary School Principal and National Speaker for the Covey Organization will share her experience with The Leader in Meprogram. Based on The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People®, The Leader in Me equips students with the self-confidence and skills they need to be leaders today and in the future.
Book Study: Creating Innovators by Tony Wagner

6pm – 8pm / Join in the discussion of the book Creating Innovators by Tony Wagner. Parents of gifted children from all over Chandler will meet to gather in small discussion groups to discuss the ideas and principles behind the break through book by Tony Wagner.
