- Teams should arrive at site 30 minutes before their scheduled match.
- Host Site/School is to provide: an adult site supervisor; trained/qualified adult scorekeeper/s & line judges (if used); warm-up balls; and a match ball.
- Match volleyballs must be three-colored panels of blue/white/gray colors
(e.g., Baden – Perfection 15-0); OR an all white, paneled, leather ball.
- Official’s Uniform: black pants, white, collared, short-/long-sleeved polo shirt,
black athletic shoes.
1. When two matches are scheduled at a site, all three sets shall be played.If more than two
matches are scheduled at site; all contests shall be the best of three sets. When teams split the first two setsof the match, a third set shall be played to determine the winning team. Sets 1 & 2 are won when a team reaches 25 points (cap at 27); set 3 is 15 points (cap at 17).
2. Visible undergarments worn under uniform (e.g., t-shirt, tank top, compression shorts) shall
be a single color similar to the predominant color of uniform top or bottom. Team shorts do
not need to be identical, but must be the same color. All teammates shall adhere to one
option for uniform jersey/top: hang loose or tucked-in shorts.
a. From warm-up period through end of match play, players are prohibited from wearing
jewelry, chewing gum, having candy, etc., in their mouths. Religious medal/Medic Alert
bracelet are not considered jewelry, but must be taped to the body. Medal must be worn
under uniform; bracelet may be visible. Rule infraction may result in team being penalized.
*b. Unadorned bobby pins, flat metal clips, barrettes & headbands no longer than three
(3) inches wide are legal.
3. Whenever a team receives the serve, that team must rotate. A team consists of six (6)
players per side. For any reason (e.g., injury, illness, player ineligibility/disqualification),
any team having less than six players shall be immediately penalized with a loss of rally and
the opposing team shall be awarded a point & side-out. During set,when vacant position
rotates to server position (Right Back), opposing team shall be awarded the point & side-out.
a. “A” squad coaches shall submit a completed VOLLEYBALL TEAM ROSTER AND
PLAYER LINEUP form to official prior to match play. Provide player’s first-name &
number only.PLAYER LINEUP SHEET (located on right side of VOLLEYBALL TEAM
ROSTER AND LINEUP form) must be submitted to official prior to each set. Substitutions
are allowed on a player-for-player basis only; maximum total of 18 per set.
b. “B” squadplayers (7th grade & under) may take one step into the court from serving line
when serving underhand only.
c. “C” squad players (6thgrade & under) are allowed to serve from designated lines/areas
when serving underhand only.Designated lines/areasshall be predeterminedbefore match
play begins by official & head coach from both teams.
d. Substitution rules for “B” & “C” squads: player-for-player; 18 substitutions per set. Teams
are NOT allowed to mix substitution methods during set. If officialdeemsplayer-for-player
substitution method delays the set/used to gain an unfair advantage, official may determine
substitution method for that set.
e. Players on both “B” & “C” squads may successfully serve up to five (5) consecutive serves.
Serving team retains the serve; the next player in the rotation shall serve for team.
4. For all squads, overhand servers may not step into the court.
5. The libero position is not used in the CAA.
6. Upon official’s whistle, players must proceed to court positions without delay. Huddling &
Cheering are delays of game. Rule violation may result in team being penalized (loss of
serve & point to opponent). “A” squad players must show uniform number to official.
7. Play starts & ends with the official’s whistle.
a. Server has five (5) seconds to serve the ballafter official whistles for serve. Failure to do so
is a “fault” and results in: a loss of serve for team; side-out & point is awarded to opponent.
b. One re-serve is allowed for each player during a turn-of-service in rotation order.
c. Players may set a serve. A serve may NOT be blocked or attacked/“spiked.”
d. A net serve (legally served ball hits the top of net in between the antennas and crosses over
into the opponent’s court) is a live ball and should be played by the opposing team. A net
serve crossing net legally, but landing out-of-bounds results in side-out/point for opponent.
8. A legal contact is a touch of the ball by any part of the player’s body.
a. Multiple Contacts are permitted only: 1) when the ball rebounds from one part of player’s
body to one (or more) other body part(s), e.g., shoulder-to-arm; or 2) during one block
attempt; or 3) on a team’s first hit, whether or not the block touches the ball.
Multiple Contacts on a second or third hit is not permitted and are illegal hits.
b. Blocking/Blocking Attempts: When a player’s body part (e.g., fingers/hands) is above the
height of the net during an attempt to block opponent’s ball, and the ball “touches” a
blocker’s body part, the “touch”does not count asone of a team’s three hits.
