General Announcements:

Let’s celebrate the Girls’ Soccer State Championship! We will do this on Friday, January 11th in the Robert V. Welch Student Activity Center from 2:25 p.m. until dismissal at 3:07 p.m. We will have a special schedule for that day, but will reserve the end of the day to thank these fine athletes for their wonderful soccer season, ending with a State Championship! They played and won in all sorts of weather and against very strong opponents. Congratulations to the Lady Irish Soccer Team and to Head Varsity Coach Marc Behringer.

Our State Championship Team members are: Erica Maginn, Kathleen Theisen, Allison Scarlott, Michelle Yeager, Kelly Fitzgerald, Mercedes Gonzalez, Kati Hall, Sophie Spenia, Cathy Cohoat, Allie Hicks, Mariah Whitaker, Jennifer Collins, Tory Schopper, Anna Parsons, Katie Zupancic, Katie Wacker, Kassidi Smalley, Anna Ventimiglia, Kyra Riggins, Kate Winingham, Natalie Warner, Alex Hall, Stephanie Cooler, Colleen McGrath, Brittany Umana, Rachael Koester, Lisa Edwards, Taylor Marshall, and Cara FizGerald. Coaches are Head Coach Marc Behringer who is aided by Missy Davis, Kevin Kubacki, Eric Schmidt, Stephanie Behringer, and Jennifer McNamara.

Congratulations to Coach Rich Andriole, who will be recognized on Friday, January 18th by the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame Awards Banquet. Rich has been selected as Coach of the Year of Class 4A and was selected for this honor by his fellow coaches for his outstanding success during the 2007 high school baseball season.

The National Honor Society will be sending out letters of academic eligibility around the third week of January, 2008 to all juniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher. Any senior who is not already a member and who has a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher will also receive a letter. These letters will invite those students eligible to apply for membership in the National Honor Society. Very specific instructions will be included on how to submit a NHS application portfolio. For those students who think they might be eligible and who would like to begin thinking about making their application, the following information may be useful:

·  All application materials must be presented complete in a portfolio format.

·  Applicants will present evidence of their 3 BEST service experiences.

·  Applicants will provide letters that attest to their character from 2 persons not related to their school experience.

·  Applicants will write a personal essay that attests to their qualities as a leader. Again, the specific instructions will be included in the letter of eligibility sent in January. It is hoped that these general guidelines will be helpful to those that may want to get a head start on contacting the moderators of their service experiences or persons they may want to write letters of recommendation for them. However, do NOT begin any part of the application until specific instructions are received.

Sophomore Rings: Herff Jones will be returning on Thursday, January 10th, for ring issues, (such as re-sizing), during the lunch periods, in the cafeteria.

Whatever happened to John Queally ’05? John is now one of the drum majors in the Notre Dame Marching Band – WOW! What an accomplishment! Great work, John. We will look for you when the cameras focus on the band during televised games.

All students must have their ID cards to get into all Cathedral home sporting events. If you do not, you will have to pay the same price for admission as everyone else - $5.00. If you have not gotten a card, you must see Mr. Greer.

Advancement - Upcoming events for Cathedral High School (all proceeds benefit tuition assistance at Cathedral High School):

1.  SHAMRAUCTION – AIRLINE AND HOTEL POINTS NEEDED!

The 2008 Shamrauction Committee needs your help! We are searching for auction items. We need donations of new electronics, furnishings, services, jewelry, collectibles, vacation homes or condos, gift certificates, event tickets, or other amusements for the auction. In addition, we need airline and hotel points! Do you have some saved up – and would like to donate them to be utilized for our Shamrauction? We would utilize these airline miles and hotel points to complete a couple of vacation packages we already have in the works to New York City. These vacation packages will be highlighted in our oral auction! All money raised at the Shamrauction provides tuition assistance to Cathedral students. What a great cause! Contact Ann Hilger (251-0406) or Suzy Dilts (283-2922) if you have an item or service to donate.

2.  Volunteer Needed! Are you wanting to be a part of the 2008 Shamrauction (February 23, 2008)? The Shamrauction committee is seeking a volunteer coordinator to assist with the recruitment and coordination of the volunteers for this event. This volunteer position would be ½ day a week leading up to the Shamrauction and working the event to check-in and give directions to volunteers that evening. If interested or have any questions, please contact Nicole Beasley at 317-968-7311.

We have added a new link to our website to reach my parent emails directly. To do so, open the website to http://www.caathedral-irish.cmfm?p=1195 and save this to your “favorites.” I hope this helps facilitate our process for each of you who might want to use this link. You will, however, still be receiving the parent emails in your email inboxes, also.

·  Although I send it out on Wednesday evening, it will not be posted until the following morning.

Cathedral will offer two S.A.T prep classes in the winter and spring to accommodate the change in testing dates. The first class will begin January 14 and run until February 25. The class will meet each Monday during this time from 6:30-8:30 in Rooms 2301 2302. This will lead up to the March 1 test. The second class will begin on March 3 and run until April 28. We will not meet if Cathedral is on vacation. The second class is also Mondays 6:30-8:30 and leads up to the May 3 test date. In the second class we will also do one night of ACT prep. Those test dates are April 12 and June 14. The cost of a class is 125.00, and this covers all materials. Students can register in the Counseling Center with Mrs. Kelly. Receipt of payment will secure a spot in the class. The spring class has generally been full in the past, so we will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Please contact Laurie O’Brien at if you have questions.

Class of 2012 – Application and Interview Information: The deadline for application for admission to the Class of 2012 was December 7. During the week of December 10, information on scheduling the student-parent interview will be mailed to all students who submitted application materials by the deadline date. The student-parent interview is the last step toward freshman admission and is a requirement of all applicants considering Cathedral. Interviews may be scheduled on one of three Sundays in January:
