<00>245-0 00$aAll my babies :$ba midwife's own story /$cthe Georgia Department of Public Health presents ; written, directed and produced by George C. Stoney for the Medical Audio-Visual Institute of the Association of American Medical Colleges.
<00>260-0 __$aUnited States :$bDistributed by CMC, Center for Mass Communication of Columbia University Press,$cc1952, {i.e., c1953}
<00>500-1 __$aDocumentary.
<00>508-0 __$aFilmed under the technical supervision of certified nurse-midwives: Marian F. Cadwallader, R.N., B.S., and Hannah D. Mitchell, R.N., M.P.H.; introduced by Wm. A. Mason, M.D., M.P.H. Director of photography, Peaslee Bond; asst. cameraman, Robert Galbraith; sound engineer, Walter Winn; assistant, Jack Brown; chief electrician, Robert Downey; sound service, McGeary-Smith, inc. Edited by Sylvia K. Cummins; musical director, Louis Applebaum; music performed by the Musical Art Chorus, Othello C. Wilson, Director.
<00>520-1 __$a"All my babies is the best-known film by major film documentarian George Stoney, who also made You are on Indian land (1969) and Shepherd of the night flock (1978). It is a sensitive and direct film on effective midwife training, and it represented a breakthrough in candidness at the time it was made. The film centers on Miss Mary, a knowing and dedicated midwife in Albany, Georgia. It opens with a meeting in which the town's midwives are chastised for the recent death of a baby and prompted to review the fundamentals of their work. The film follows two parallel stories, one of an experienced and confident expectant mother and the other of a young woman who comes close to losing her child out of ignorance. Stoney juxtaposes scenes in a home that is dirty and unprepared with one that is properly set up for childbirth and postnatal care. Miss Mary's gentle narration carries the action and adds a reassuring touch ... cont.
<00>520-2 8_$aSummary continues ... An actual birth, which is both instructive
and moving, provides the film's dramatic climax. All my babies remains both a vital training film and an impressive example of a powerful yet very accessible documentary approach"--Circulating Film Library catalog / Museum of Modern Art. 1984.
