Ozzie’$ Tip of the Month

Get a Bank Account. It is ok to be cautious but banks aren’t just about pressuring you to get credit cards with high interest rates. They offer treasured services that students can value from including check cashing, debit cards, online banking, balance alerts, personal loans, direct deposit, financial education and some offer identity theft protection. Many banks are also featuring student programs that may offer money back deals as well as low interest rates for students.

Make the Most of Your Summer Break

It’s time to take full advantage of your break! Although it is time to lay off the books and have a little fun, you can be preparing for your future at the same time.

1.  Follow a passion. Try to do something constructive that will also build your resume. For example, a student who enjoys the outdoors and hiking could look into working at a summer camp or national park.

2.  Create an internship. You may come across a company or person you would really like to work for but they do not have internships set up. One option is to offer to work for free. The job skills gained may be worth their weight in gold.

Financial Aid Authorization

Federal financial aid cannot pay miscellaneous charges (such as orientation and late fees) unless you authorize it to do so. If you have charges and do not authorize the aid, you must to pay the fees yourself. Your account will be placed on hold until they are paid. Your refund will also be delayed. Follow these steps to complete the authorization:

1.  Log into myWings, student tab

2.  Select “Student Self Service”

3. Select “Online Forms”

4. Select “Financial Aid Authorization” and follow prompt

Make the Most of Your Summer Break (Continued)

3.  Start a business. Whether you like to make cute homemade earring, can screen print shirts, or know how to build financial budgets- offer your services to fellow students to get more experience doing what you like and making a few bucks at the same time.

4.  Think outside the box. Doing something constructive doesn’t mean it has to be traditional. If you are really into a sport, performing, or even yoga work on developing your skills to the next level!

5.  Read! Read! Read! Whatever you decide to do this summer — work, volunteer, intern or study — pick up a few books, newspapers, or magazines. Reading opens your mind and introduces you to new things while also improving important skills such as comprehension and vocabulary.
