Global Ambassadors’ Day: Global Art Piece

Oldfield Primary School is an Expert Centre for the Global Learning Programme. It is alsosupported by CDEC – Developing Global Learning. Five of the schools in their cluster, led by staff from Huntington Primary School, decided to hold a ‘Global Ambassadors’ Day’, showcasing Global Learning and activities. The aim was to draw together the learning that had taken place through the Global Learning Programme and share it with each other. The event involved 27 children from the five schools and featured a range of activities, including the creation of a global art piece.

The creation of a global art piece, based on global days and global values, by pupils from five GLP cluster schools during a day of various different Global Learning activities. / After some introductory Global Learning activities for the whole group, the children split off into five stations, featuring different activities planned by the teachers from the five schools. One of the stations focused on the creation of a global art piece, based on global days and global values. The GLP cluster schools have celebrated various ‘Global Dates’ throughout the project such as: International Peace Day, World Environment Day and Fairtrade Fortnight.
As the children worked on the art piece, they discussed and thought about how to represent the various Global Dates in creative ways. They used many materials and artistic techniques, such as gluing, collage, weaving, tea bags, coffee, paint and masking tape, and discussed together which materials and what techniques would get the global message across.
