Title:Volunteer Recruitment Specialists

General Summary

The Volunteer Recruitment Specialist (VRS) is a member of the Volunteer Recruitment, Screening and Training (RST) team for CASA of Travis County. The VRS will be the primary lead in the recruitment of volunteers with a focus on making strategic connections with civic minded businesses, organizations, faith groups, alumni associations, city and state employers and other small to large entities that could potentially funnel volunteers to CASA. The VRS will strive to increase the diversity of underrepresented demographic groups among CASA volunteers. The VRS will work closely with the Director of Volunteer Admissions and the Director of Communications.

Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Volunteer Recruitment and Outreach

  • Builds and maintains relationships with civic minded businesses, organizations, faith groups, city and state employers and other small to large entities for the purpose of creating a channel of potential volunteer advocates.
  • Approaches the recruitment and engagement of new CASA volunteers with a diversity lens ensuring efforts to recruit volunteers reflect the demographics of the community and children and families served.
  • Develops a recruitment marketing plan with the Director of Communications and Director of Volunteer Admissions.
  • Seeks input from and works alongside the Director of Volunteer Admissions to develop strategies to recruit volunteers from underrepresented demographic groups.
  • Seeks input from current and past volunteers on CASA’s recruitment efforts and overall CASA experience.
  • Organize and conduct Trainings for current and former volunteer advocates who wish to assist with recruitment.
  • Develops and organizes volunteer opportunities for groups.
  • Researches and stays on top of current volunteer recruitment trends and strategies locally and nationally.
  • Delivers presentations to promote CASA of Travis County from small to large- scale groups in the community.
  • Plans and staffs events for recruiting volunteers, using the time and resources of current volunteer advocates and CASA supporters as appropriate.
  • Organizes and staffs monthly volunteer Information sessions.
  • Assists in responding to volunteer inquiries in a timely and thorough fashion, with prompt answer and complete information packets.
  • Coordinates with the Development and Communications/Marketing teams in recruiting volunteers and teams for annual special events (e.g. CASA Superhero Run, Golf Tournament, toy drive).
  • Serve as the program liaison for other Development or Communications/Marketing related initiatives that could potentially yield potential volunteer advocates (e.g. special event volunteers, etc.).

Evaluation of Recruitment Activities

  • Assists in collecting, analyzing and reporting on volunteer recruitment data and trends including monitoring the timetables that include: the application process, the training process, and case assignment.
  • Assists in tracking ethnicity and gender trends in volunteer response to varied recruitment methods.
  • Reviews and evaluates the recruitment plan at least annually and, in consultation with the Director of Volunteer Admissions makes revisions and modifications as needed to fulfill CASA's mission and meet CASA's goals. Seeks input from the Director of Training, and Director of Communications, and other CASA staff as appropriate.

Program Oversights

  • Collaborate and communicate with the Director of Volunteer Admissions to ensure deliberate overlap, such that if one person on the team is missing, the Volunteer Recruitment Specialist could step in to take care of necessary tasks for CASA.
  • Participates in pre-training interviews with prospective advocates as needed.
  • Assists with and supports advocate recruitment and retention events including, but not limited to volunteer retention events, Swearing In ceremonies, Volunteer Appreciation and in-service training.
  • Assists with other duties as assigned.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or four (4) years in professional recruiting.
  • Public speaking experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to clearly communicate an organization’s mission and need for volunteers to the community.
  • Demonstrated ability or strong willingness to understand the role of the CASA volunteer.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish strong working relationships with small to large scale businesses, community groups, and other entities that represent various demographic groups needed in CASA’s volunteer pool.
  • Demonstrated experience and comfort working in multicultural environments and with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with both the Advocacy and Communications team to address recruitment needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.
  • Strong networking and relationship building skills.
  • Knowledge and skills in utilizing social media for marketing.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement methods of recruitment that grow the volunteer pool on a steady basis to meet the needs of the growing agency.

Preferred

  • Degree in human resources, communications, marketing, public relations, sociology, social work or a related field.
  • Public speaking experiences in varied settings (small and large groups, grassroots, corporate, non-profit, faith communities).
  • Two years of experience in volunteer recruitment.
  • Experience within a CASA program as a staff member or volunteer.
  • Experience with developing relationships to enhance diversity and inclusiveness of volunteer pool.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

The Volunteer Recruitment Specialist will be expected to have daily transportation to attend recruitment events. The Volunteer Recruitment Specialist will have a flexible schedule as there will be trainings in the evening and recruitment events in the evenings and on weekends. He/she will spend some time in the office that could involve intermittent physical activities including bending, reaching, sitting and walking during working hours. Additionally it is anticipated that the person spend several hours of each day seated at a PC. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable a person with physical disabilities to perform the job.
