  2. Update on Divisions
  3. Natural Sciences: Working on getting funds for course buyouts from grants returned to division. Working on getting returned overhead from grants returned to division. Developing a Capital Equipment list for division and working to establish budget line for equipment purchases needed for teaching/research (college or at campus level?). This will allow NSD Chairperson to use these funds to purchase capital equipment each year.
  4. Social Sciences: Division voted on DPC election procedures. Faculty approved procedures and they have been forwarded to administration and union for approval
  5. Humanities: Division has an annual report which is posted on their website. Draft for last academic year (2015-2016) is being finalized. The annual report contains a list of accomplishments for faculty in the Humanities division.
  6. All Senate meeting: Will be held Friday, October 07 in W1 from 2 to 3 PM. Update to CAS from VCAA. VCAA Platz will discuss budget and hiring. There will be town hall meetings to discuss reorganization organized by Faculty Congress.
-- Another agenda item for the all senate item is to ask the senate how the CAS SEC can be helpful with respect to the reorganization process.
  7. Update on CAS from Dean (Susan Brown)
  8. Faculty hires: CAS is expected to have 5 new hires. Late hires have been problematic in the past. Therefore, CAS is trying to get hiring documents and advertisements ready to go so hiring can be done as efficiently as possible once the hires get final approval.
  9. GPS registration system: GPS was piloted with incoming freshman and will be used again in the spring. GPS will be taught to each department chair.
  10. KSCM to replace Curriculum Central: Curriculum changes should be sent to Shelby Wong (Curriculum & Catalog Coordinator).
Budget: There was a drop in student numbers by 150. However, the Fall 2016incoming class is about same size as Fall 2015 incoming class. A drop in student population means a drop in tuition revenue. This year, the academic affairs budget should not be cut.
  11. Reorganization: CAS SEC should help get information for faculty. It will be helpful if faculty can think of ways that reorganization might adversely affect students so problems can be anticipated and hopefully eliminated before they happen. A handout produced by Thom Curtis was provided to the SEC members. The handout shows a pie chart of the number of students in each of the proposed colleges. Administration wants faculty to communicate with UHPA regarding the proposed reorganization.
  12. Meeting adjourned.
