Customers and clients include: high-profile privately owned properties, prominent property management companies, the world renowned WEM, retail malls, notable high-rise facilities, large scale residential buildings and branch facilities of National Account Customers.

Summary / Position Overview:

The HVAC Service / Refrigeration Mechanic position reports to the Branch Managerwithina non-unionized environment.Core challenges centre around satisfying the terms and conditions of service / maintenance agreements, as well as promoting Branch Work Order sales through the provision of exceptional customer service.

Priorities include: on-going preventative maintenance, service and repair, modernization and retrofit, new construction, testing, design and start-up, as well as, technical support across a wide range of Mechanical Building Systems. There is tremendous variety within the role and diverse challenges that span; service of existing contracts (50%), modernization and retrofit work ( 20% ), new construction projects (10%), large scale projects and building automation and controls.

A commitment to exceptional customer service and proven problem solving abilities,are required in order to maintain established professional client relationships in addition to providing equipment service / maintenance excellence. A Team-oriented individual with solid communication, analytical and diagnostic skills is required,together with an on-going personal commitment to Environmental, Health and Safety policies and procedures.

This opportunity requires a capable,somewhat entrepreneurial, self-motivated and reliable Professional who is comfortable working independently. The role requires a resourceful and well respected individual with the ability to satisfy on-going maintenance requirements, to troubleshoot, repair and maintain mechanical assets, pumps, boilers, chillers, screw chillers, air handlers, centrifugal HVAC systems, unitary rooftop HVAC systems, as well as, related HVACbuilding / automation controls ( DDC ).

Position Challenges & Responsibilities:

  • Respond to any type of emergency service calls ( as directed ),keeping system downtime to a minimum.Evaluate, analyze, troubleshoot, solve equipment problems, repair or develop or implement solutions to prevent future occurrence.To restore equipment, perform work assignments in a safe manner within specified cost limits and project parameters. Bring creativity, innovation and originality to current technical applications
  • Recommend revisionsand replacements ( when necessary ).Replace components as necessary.Provide efficient and expeditious resolution of emergencies and repair ( Carrier provides automated dispatching services to their HVAC Service Mechanics )
  • Safe and responsible operation of company service vehicle ( dispatched via page during regular hours8:00am – 4:30pm )
  • Responding to and taking“on call” rotation 24 hour x 7 days a week ( as required ) … emergency response for contract customers only( within the city limits for the entire on-call period of time )
  • Safe operation of own hand tools in compliance with Federal and Provincial Regulations and the Occupational Health & Safety Act, the Regulations on W.H.M.I.S. ( Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System ). Maintain current licensures.
  • To attend requisite training related to Carrier equipment and controls and to stay abreast of information pertaining to HVAC products in the workplace, as well as attending annual W.H.M.I.S. training and renewal
  • Provide technical assistance to clients and customers advancing sales leads where possible during the course of service work, as well as, possibly generating other sales opportunities within the local business community
  • Instruct and trainthe customer and / or customer representatives with respect to mechanical systems and operating procedures ( if applicable )
  • Represent the company by projecting a professional image with respect to personal appearance (wearing a clean uniform on the job at all times), as well as maintaining the cleanliness and condition of a company sponsored service vehicle
  • Report current materialrequirements in a timely and responsible manner, and to recommend inventory or replacement parts and equipment as needed
  • Maintain confidential propriety company documentation.Distribute promotional marketing materials in accordance with established policies ( if applicable )
  • Tactfully supportclient policies and proceduresduring customer site visits, while meeting all professional safety requirements
  • Promote, build and maintain good customer relations. Assist in service and maintenance contract retention; informBranch Manager or immediate Supervisor of customer needs, requirements, systems status … actual or potential customer problems. Exercise good judgment and skillfully handle demanding and / or difficult customers
  • Provide technical guidance and support to client’s ( Building Managers, Maintenance Staff, etc. )
  • Complete all paperwork and expenses in an accurate and timely manner ( as required )
  • Recommend ways to reduce costs and eliminate unnecessary expenses

Qualifications– Trade Certification /HVAC Experience

Our client requires an experienced certified Journeyperson/HVAC Refrigeration Mechanic,or HVAC Field Service Technician,with related building trade’s experience. The company welcomes candidates who presently are Certified Plumbers or Pipefitters, or Certified Refrigeration A/C Mechanics, or individuals who are Certified Instrumentation Technicians who may also hold a Gas Fitters License. Most importantly, the company seeks an outgoing, personable and highly motivated professional.

Related Professional Certification as noted above ( is preferred ), together with sound HVAC industry experience, Mechanical Building and Control Systems, ( “simple” to “moderatelycomplex” in nature ).

Exposure to various commercial facilities, buildings, HVAC system design ( DDC ), modernization, retrofit and new construction would be an asset. HVAC experience, light commercial and / or commercial rooftop experience and knowledge of HVAC products and services would be preferable.

In this position Carrier Commercial Service requires contemporary computer skills,the ability to meet deadlines, exceptional time management and excellent organizational planning skills.
