COACHES SELECTION

1. INTRODUCTION

Coach selection is a critical part to the success of the club and must be done with careful consideration.

This is a domestic club where the players best interest must be considered.

At times there will not be enough coaches with previous experience to fill all of the required coaching positions. In this case a parent volunteer will be the mosy likely candidate and it is the Coaching Coordinators responsibility to assist with running training sessions focusing on player improvement rather than winning.

Coaches are selected for terms of two seasons.

2. SELECTION CRITERIA

The committee will select coaches based upon the following:

·  National Coaching Accreditation Scheme (NCAS) Accreditation Level

·  Coaching experience

·  Whether the aplicant is requesting to coach the number 1 team and the applicant coached the same core group of players in the development team in the previous two seasons

·  Commitment to basketball coaching self development

·  Years of service to the club

·  Coaching philosophy

·  Commitment to player development

·  Playing experience

The appointment to all coaching positions is made subject to a successful working with children check and successful police check.

3. SUBMISSION TO COMMITTEE FOR APPROVAL

The Secretary will present to the committee the list of teams where coaches are required and their applicants:

4. FINAL APPROVAL BY COMMITTEE

The committee has the final decision in coach selection.

Where there are multiple applicants for the same position, the committee will need to discuss and vote on who will be the successful applicant.

Where there are written concerns about previous coaching behaviours and ethics, the committee will need to discuss and vote on whether the applicant should be considered for a coaching position at all.
