PRAYER LETTER FOR AUGUST 2016

Dear Friends:

Greetings from a very wet August 31st afternoon! The second part of our Guatemalan rain season began just recently, and it seems like something from a movie, as the rains are heavy and for long periods of time. But we love it!

I feel like I need to begin by informing all our friends that the Guatemalan postal services are temporarily out of service due to internal government problems, therefore, and until further notice, we cannot mail you anything by “snail mail” nor can we receive anything from you unless by way of some courier service such as DHL, or UPS which can be quite costly. (This does not affect your sending your support to Hammond!) Pray we can receive much needed Gospel literature (tracts, Bibles, testaments, books, and etcetera). Just yesterday I waited in line for about an hour at the downtown main office to get some explanation as to when we can expect delivery of our long anticipated correspondence and packages, but authorities said they have our number, and will call us as soon as our number comes up...” Basically, it’s their way of saying, “sir, you see the thousands of parcels stacked there, when and if we can get to your stuff we will let you know, but in the mean time, please leave us alone!

On a much brighter side, we are praising God for His mercies and blessings this past month! We were able to teach on the peace of God which passes all understanding. There were several folks saved during our weekly soul winning (Tuesdays and Saturdays), but no baptisms as of yet, perhaps because the days are wet and cold. We are hoping and praying to baptize converts this month, Lord willing.

Last month I mentioned something about our deaf ministry, and how we desperately need new leadership. I am happy to say that there were three deaf men who responded. One of them is Brother BenjaminDiaz, whom I have been training for a while. He teaches the second half of our Sunday morning time and thus far he seems to be doing well, but I am asking for your prayers for him and his wife and daughter. Two other young men responded to the call, and we may be teaching them on a week to week basis the fundamentals of the faith specially adapted to the deaf world so they can become our new deaf leaders. Do remember their names if you can: WalterTzok (pronounced “sock”) and JohnnyQuiché (pronounced “key-shay”). We are thinking about asking them to come out Saturday afternoon and have a Bible institute for 4 hours, and have them spend the night at our mission since the following day is Sunday, and that way they would already be in church. Brother Walter lives about 2 hours from Guatemala City.

Elayon, our naturopathic medical ministry, continues to expand as we are seeing new patients on a weekly basis. The Lord has allowed us to serve and help so many of our people. Did you know that the Guatemalan government health system collapsed several months ago? No meds and no attending physician in many places. Many people are seeking alternative medical health professionals and clinics, and as a missionary my main focus is on reaching them for Christ besides treating them physically. Your prayers and encouragement are appreciated.

Upcoming activities in September, our “patriotic” month: emphasis in reaching souls for Christ, and serving our nation by way of neighborhood meetings to reach the lost youth, crime, and health related problems.

In closing, allow me to say thanks, and ask for your continued support for our ministry. August 5thmarked our 25th year, and we do look forward to many more in His service.

Weeping and caring for souls,

Brother Carlos Donate
