2. Aim of Post

Carers Support Merton is going through a period of significant growth and development. We have ambitious plans to build on our excellent history and reputation and become the organisation that all carers and professionals in Merton turn to for high quality services and advice for carers. Unpaid carers continue to receive a high profile in national and local policy, and we want to ensure that carers in Merton receive the best possible support to enable them in their caring role. As our services are developing we now need to employ a new adult services manager to help progress our services to all adult carers in a fast changing policy landscape. This post will join our Young Carers manager and Office / Volunteer Manager to form a senior management team working alongside the CEO to build a sustainable and dynamic future for the organisation.

The main purposes of the post are :-

To manage the adult carersservices and staff team.

To represent Carers Support Merton to a wide range of stakeholders, and in a variety of settings.

To act as part of the senior management team to develop high quality serviceswhich are appropriate for carers needs.

3. Role Description

  1. To manage the services for adult carers, including staff management and support.
  2. To review and develop good case management practices.
  3. To take on some casework where appropriate.
  4. To represent Carers Support Merton at relevant events and forum meetings.
  5. To evaluate the services and provide written reports for funders and the board of trustees.
  6. To identify needs and drive the adult carers services forward.
  7. To produce appropriate plansfor development in conjunction with the CEO and to implement and monitor their progress.
  8. To develop high quality services within the framework of our charitable objectives. To take account of relevant good practice guidelines and our affiliation to the Princess Royal Trust for Carers.
  9. Towork as part of the senior management team in the strategic development of the organisation.
  10. To deliver talks and information sessions to various groups including groups of professionals and groups of carers.To develop and provide training sessions for professionals on carers issues as appropriate.
  11. To establish a network of contacts and to manage and develop relationships with statutory and voluntary agencies in order to meet the needs of carers.
  12. To remain well informed and up to date with relevant national and local policy and to translate the impact of this to the services that Carers Support Merton provide.

Qualifications

/ Relevant qualification – eg social work or other.

Experience

/ Experience of managing other people
Experience of coordinating services or projects
Used to working in fast moving environments providing accurate and timely information to a high standard
Experience of developing and implementing changes in policy or practice

Experience of writing clear, readable reports.

/ Experience, voluntary or paid, of working in the voluntary sector.
Experience in the social care or health sectors.
Experience of working with multi-ethnic communities.

Experience of involvement in policy making.

Experience of training, mentoring or coaching others.

Knowledge

/ An understanding of policy and practice affecting carers, and the ability to update and maintain this knowledge.
An awareness and understanding of the needs of carers.

An empathy with the charitable sector

Skills and Ability

/ The ability to support and motivate people
The ability to working in a fast moving environment and provide well planned, accurate and timely information to a high standard
High degree of communication skills, particularly attuned to working well with volunteers
Ability to do some evening and weekend work when necessary.
An ability to establish and retain effective working relationships with other staff and to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing
An ability to gather, analyse and evaluate facts and to prepare and present concise oral and written reports
The ability to maintain and update current knowledge as policy and legislation changes.
Computer literate & able to use Microsoft Office programmes and Windows operating systems.

An ability to work unsupervised and as part of a team.

This post is full time (35hrs p/w). Salary £31,400pa.

Closing date for applications 12 noon on 30th September 2009. Interviews will be held on Fri 9th October 2009 and Tuesday 13th October 2009. (Each candidate will be offered one of these dates and not be expected to attend both) Shortlisted candidates will also be asked to prepare a presentation for the interview.
