Carer Advisor–22.5 hours per week

Based in Sutton Farm, Shrewsbury

Salary £17,500 – £18,500 pro rata depending on experience

We are looking for a self-motivated, organised Carer Advisor with excellent communication skillsto provide support, advice and information toadult carers in the Bridgnorth and District area.

At Carers Trust 4all we deliver a wide range of services to both adults and children, operating across a large geographical area that includes Bury, Cheshire East, Cheshire West, Liverpool, Knowsley, Manchester, Tameside, Warrington, Wirral, Sefton and Shropshire.

We are a Network Partner of Carers Trust, the largest charity for, with and about carers. Our goal is to improve support, services and recognition for anyone living with the challenges of caring, unpaid, for a family member or friend who is ill, frail, disabled or has mental health or addiction problems. We aim to ensure that information, advice and practical support are available to all carers in our region.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Carrying out assessments of carers needs through home visits and providing 1:1 support, advice and signposting
  • Liaising with external stakeholders including local community groups and social care professionals to identify hidden carers
  • Promoting carer services and awareness of carer issues with external agencies, professionals and community groups
  • Offering information and advice sessions alongside partner organisations
  • Plan, organise and run meetings in local market towns to bring carers together for information and mutual support
  • Recruit and support locally based volunteers to provide practical support to carers in their homes, through outreach surgeries and through peer support networks
  • Provide advocacy support and practical help to carers

The successful candidate will have the following:

  • a general understanding of carers issues
  • the ability to relate well with a diverse range of people
  • ability to deal with information in a confidential manner and respond with sensitivity
  • good organisational skills and the ability to manage a variety of tasks
  • administrative, IT skills, as well as an ability to maintain records and produce clear written and oral reports
  • proven experience of building relationships with key stakeholders both internal and external
  • ability to work on own initiative and manage own workload
  • flexible approach to work and willingness to cover occasional evenings and weekends
  • a familiarity with social media is desirable
