COURSE OBJECTIVE:

CAREER PLANNINGis designed to actively involve you in the planning of your future career. Topics will include: self awareness, career exploration, and job search skills. The course will also help you meet your Grade 9 Career Portfolio requirements for high school graduation.

COURSE FORMAT:

This is a semester course that meets on ABC or DEF days. Upon successful completion of the course, you will receive .25 credits.

to follow the school’s Technology Policy.

  • Pennsylvania Career Guide.

23rd Edition – 2012-13; Pennsylvania Department ofLabor & Industry.

  • Career World Magazine.(various editions). Weekly Reader Publication.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

  • PROJECTS: During the course, you will be assigned required projects. The topic for

these projects will focus on Career Exploration and Career Research.

  • ASSIGNMENTS: In-class assignments will be given regularly. Each assignment will have

A point value, which will be used in determining your course grade.

  • TESTS/QUIZZES: The question format can include: multiple choice, essay, short

answer, and completion.

GRADING:

The course will be graded on a percentage basis.Your final grade will be your total points earned divided by the total points possible.

MAKE-UP WORK AND LATE WORK POLICY:

Make-up Work ~ If you are absent, you are expected to hand in all previously assigned work (projects, tests/quizzes, assignments) the next class period. Youarealsoresponsible for obtaining any in-class assignments given on the date you were absent. The in-class assignment will be due the next class period.

Late-Work ~ Any assigned work that is turned in after the due date can be penalized by having 10% of the total points deducted for each day late (up to 3 days). After that, the project will earn a grade of zero.

STUDENT EXPECTATIONS:

1. Be OnTime. “On time” means in your seat and ready to start class when the bell rings.

Three lates, without a pass from another teacher or the office, will result in a discipline

referral.

2. Be Prepared. Bring a pencil and any required homework to class. Meet deadlines.

3. Be Respectful. Kind words and actionsare expected. “Listen and silent are spelled with the

same letters.”

4. Be Honest. Cheating is not acceptable. The consequence is a zero on the assignment. If

you allow another student to copy your work, both of you will receive a zero.

5. Be Involved.Your questions and responses/discussion to questions are welcomed and expected!
