Career Pathways for Individuals with Disabilities (CPID) Model Demonstrations

The Rehabilitation Services Administration funded CPID Model Demonstrations in Georgia, Kentucky, Nebraska, and Virginia to promote partnerships that enable persons with disabilities to access existing and new career pathways to competitive integrated employment in high-demand occupations. The grantees provide and partner with others to offer education and training opportunities, comprehensive supports and accommodations that help individuals attain industry-recognized credentials and high-quality employment. Partners include but are not limited to employers, secondary and postsecondary educational institutions, American Job Centers, workforce training providers, and social and human service organizations.

Georgia’s Explore, Engage, Employ (E3)

Georgia VR is implementing E3 (Explore, Engage, Employ) in 7 school districts to serve 3,000 students and youth. E3 goals are to engage employers to customize existing career pathways and develop alternative pathways for students and out of school youth; involve families to increase youth participation, and utilize social media strategies to develop services and connect youth to career interests. Partners include the Poses Family Foundation, GA Department of Education, Technical College System of Georgia, Center for Leadership in Disability, Parent to Parent of Georgia, Burton Blatt Institute, and Jobs for the Future.

Kentucky’s Project CASE

Project CASE expands access to career pathways in three promising economic sectors: advanced manufacturing, healthcare, and information technology. Career Pathways Coordinators (CPCs) act as liaisons among secondary educational settings, Kentucky Community and Technical College System, Kentucky Adult Education, business owners and employers, and the Offices of Vocational Rehabilitation and the Blind. The CPCs engage VR consumers in services available through the Kentucky Manufacturing Career Center, the Kentucky Health Career Center, and Kentucky Career Centers Jobsight network of workforce centers of EKCEP.

Nebraska’ Career Pathway Advancement Project (CPAP)

The CPAP will focus outreach to 2,500 successfully employed Nebraska VR clients to identify opportunities for career advancement in high demand industries of Information Technology (IT), HealthCare, Construction Manufacturing and Transportation, Distribution and Logistics (TDL). Using the UpSkill/Backfill model, the CPAP partners with businesses and the workforce system to meet the hiring and promotion needs of businesses and the career and economic self-sufficiency goals of customers with disabilities.

Virginia Career Pathways for Individuals with Disabilities

The CPID will help 500 Virginians with disabilities gain new skills and industry-recognized credentials through Career Pathways. Transition-age youth, young adults, and veterans with disabilities will access Career Pathways, leading to employment in competitive, high-demand, high-quality occupations. CPID’s business-driven approach focuses on two industry sectors: Modern Manufacturing and Information Technology. CPID has more than 10 project partners in education, workforce development, and business, ensuring stewardship of funding and systems alignment.
