Annual Report for the year 2010-2011

The Career Guidance Cell at The New College functions under the direct control and directions of the Principal of the College. A team of Professors nominated by they Principal, work together to guide the students on Career opportunities.

The objective of the cell is to identify the talents available among the students of this College and nurture and harness them further and offer guidance to choose a bright and right career.

The activities of the cell include collecting the database of the students and compiling them for use when needed. The cell facilitates the students to improve their skills to face various competitive exams such as civil service exams conducted by UPSC and TNPSC. The CareerGuidance Cell organizes seminars and meetings to encourage the students to plan their future. Above all, the main function of the cell is to invite reputed companies to the campus to conduct campus interviews and find suitable jobs for the skills available among the students.

The cell also facilitates the economically weaker sections of the students of first and second year undergraduate courses to find suitable part time jobs to supplement the family income without affecting the academic pursuit.

WIPRO BPO Company conducted a mega campus interview event on 28.09.2010 in which 400 students participated. The interview was conducted in four stages and after the last stage 2 Students were selected for appointment.

COGNIZANT TECHNOLOGY SOLUTION conducted campus event on 05.10.2010 in which the following 12 students have been selected by the company and the offer letters were issued on the same day by the Principal.

M/s iGATE GLOBAL SOLUTIONS, Bangalore conducted an off-campus recruitment drive at Vel Tecyh High Tech Engineering College, Avaid, Chennai – 62 for the science students. In which students from B.Sc. Computer Science, B.I.S.M. , Mathematics & Physics were participated.

DELL SERVICES conducted a campus interview event on 23.02.2011in which 300 students participated. The interview was conducted in four screening process and after the last processthe following 23 Students were selected for appointment.

Eureka Forbes Limited conducted a campus event on 4th March 2011 for the final year’s students to select the Sales Professional.

TATA Consultancy Services conducted an assessment Test in the campus, more than 400 students participated in the Test held on 7th March 2011. 100 students were declared eligible for HR interview to be held off campus. Final selection list is awaited.

Cybernet Slash Support Services Corporation conducted campus interview on
9th March 20011 in our college for the final year students. In which more than 400 students were participated final list is awaited.

Thanks to the encouragement given by the Management, Principal, Heads of Departments and the co-operation rendered by the enthusiastic colleagues, the Career Guidance Cell was able to organize events during the academic years 2010-2011.. Students database has been issued to more than 75 companies on request and the placement details are awaited from these companies.
