CAPTURE FROM FIRESTORE

Make sure Firestore is powered off. Connect to computer via 6 pin firewire. Use port on Firestore that reads computer, not DV.

Power up Firestore.

Prepare Firestore to Import HD material

1. Goto UTILITIES menu. Highlight ORGANIZE P2.

2. Goto HDD MODE menu. Highlight DD DRIVE and select Right Arrow. Then hit ENABLE. Wait until screen reads SUCCESS. **Leave Firestore in ENABLE MODE. Don't exit.

Goto Computer Desktop and Firestore icon will be visible.

Open FCP. Create New Project.

Goto FCP ==> SYSTEM SETTINGS menu. Set scratch disk s to the location that you want to store your files. Also move Waveform Cache, Thumbnail Cache and Autosave Vault.

Goto FILE ==> IMPORT ==> PANASONIC P2. You will see a list of the media on the Firestore. Select clips and hit IMPORT.

Expect numeric labels for your clips. Also, long takes may be broken into several clips. Go ahead and rename your clips.

Before disconnecting Firestore, Remember to hit “Exit” and then Drag the Firestore icon from the desktop into the trash before unplugging firewire.

Also, Remember to erase your material from the Firestore.

Goto UTILITIES menu. Goto FORMAT, Select FORMAT DISK, Press YES to erase all data.

EDITING HD

Goto FCP ==> AUDIO/VIDEO SETTINGS. Select SEQUENCE PRESET. Find the preset: DVCPRO HD-720P 24. Hit DUPLICATE. Give this preset a unique name for your work session. If the computer has not been reset, you will see the Presets created by previous users. For example DVCPRO HD-720P 24 ALLEN'S EDIT. Change Editing Timebase to 59.94. Hit OK.

Still in FCP ==> AUDIO/VIDEO SETTINGS, select SUMMARY tab. Goto Sequence Preset on the SUMMARY page and select the preset you just created. Hit OK.

All new sequences will be preset for the HD you have shot. Do not use the Sequence 1 that was created upon starting a new FCP project. Create a new sequence. FCP ==> NEW SEQUENCE.

SELECT HD OUTPUT FOR APPLE CINEMA DISPLAY

Goto FCP ==> AUDIO/VIDEO SETTINGS. On the SUMMARY tab, at Video Playback, select Blackmagic HDTV 720p 59.94Hz - 8 Bit (1280 x 720). Audio Playback, select DeckLink Audio.
