MEETING NOTES
ATTENDEES:
Board members: Bonnie Schwartz, Gloria Torres, Pat Lewis, Gene Lavastida, Terri Burke (Ochoa), and Randy King.
Guests: Kim Cooper-Hart, Jennifer Gates, Jim Sconzo (Community Action Agency), Gloria Lopez (Capitol Hill Graffix) and Patricia Philips (property owner).

The meeting began at 3:50pm without a quorum present. Mr. King opened the meeting with introductions. The minutes from the January meeting were discussed but no vote was taken. The financial report was discussed. Randy explained that the large expense was the balance for the 44 banner brackets; the total cost was about $2200. There was a question about the old brackets. Jorge answered that they are in storage at CAA, but it would be good if we could sell them. Kim asked if they belonged to the City. Bonnie thought the Centennial Group had donated them. Kim suggested they be donated to another district. The new banners were discussed. We expect to get sponsors and securely hang the sponsor name from the bottom of the banner.
Mr. King shared news about Mr. Sellers retiring and moving. The Capitol Hill Beacon publishing rights have been sold to a Midwest City paper. Our organization, along with the South Chamber, will be presenting an award for him for his lifetime service to the community. It may be held at the Capitol Hill history coffee event or at the next Civic Group meeting, depending on the Sellers’ schedule.
Ms. Torres asked about the Sponsor Packets. Jorge explained it was being finalized for the sponsor lunch set for Tuesday, Feb. 25.
At 4:10, Mr. Hernandez started the business meeting with a PowerPoint presentation. He talked about the many accomplishments of 2013: our new Taco Truck Thursdays, Haunt the Hill, and Navidad en Calle dos Cinco events, seasonal street decorations, the old banners were taken down, and exciting plans for OCCC. Ms. Torres explained more about the expansion plans for the OCCC Capitol Hill campus and how it would be a positive impact for the area bringing adults and younger students. This summer they are starting the new kid’s college sessions.
Jorge continued by outlining the District Goals for 2014: Improving Perception, Improved Communication, and Increased Visibility. He explained the BID expenses and revenue for 2013. Our funding sources need to grow and be more secure. The new Sponsorship opportunities will help to raise money. Promotional opportunities could include names on kiosks and plaques.
Mr. Hernandez took questions. Mrs. Phillips stated that she has seen improvements but feels strongly that we need to educate property owners on the importance of the outside of their building. It goes a long way to make people feel welcome and safe; improve “curb appeal”. Gloria Lopez stated that this was the first business meeting she had attended and she was pleased with the information. The Board thanked them for their comments and attendance.
The meeting ended at 5:05pm.
