CAPE TOWN MILITARY TATTOO 2010 ENTERTAINMENT DURING THE FIFA WORLD CUP 2010

The Cape Town Military Tattoo 2010 identified the FIFA World Cup Soccer fan fest activities on the doorstep of the Castle as an ideal opportunity to promote the Cape Town Millitary Tattoo 2010, the Castle and military in general. Equally important for the Tattoo management is the development of the youth and the responsibility for youth development in Cape Town is demonstrated by the inclusion of selected youth groups from disadvantaged areas in the Tattoo programme.

The South African Sea Cadets, Portlands High School, the Malibu Drum Majorettes and the Youth Brigade Brass Band all from Cape Town, will perform during the FIFA World Cup at the Castle as part of the Tattoo 2010 marketing program. These performances will not only promote the Cape Town Military Tattoo 2010 but also afford them the opportunity to be part of this South African historical moment.

On Friday 11 June 2010 the South African Sea Cadets provided entertainment to the visitors at the Castle and at 18:00 Cape Field Artillery, a Reserve Unit, once again boomed their contribution into South African history when a salvo was fired as part of the establishment of the Cape Town Heritage Moment. Both Cape Field Artillery and the South African Sea Cadets directly contributed to the promotion of the Cape Town Military Tattoo 2010, the Castle and the image of the Military in general as part of this South African historic event.

South African Sea Cadets is a registered 21 Section Company. They are recognised by the South African National Defence Force and the South African Navy assists in the training of the Cadets. The first training Unit was established in Cape Town on 8 June 1905 on Woodstock Beach.

The same group that performed at the Castle will participate in the Cape Town Military Tattoo 2010 at the Castle over the period 03 to 06 November 2010. The average age of the boys and girls is 15 years of age and it was only the ninth time that they have executed the difficult continuation drill performance.

The Cadets attend school most of the day and only have Saturdays to train. The training does not only consist of basic discipline and drill but also includes Seamanship, Navigation, Engineering, Communication, Catering and Leadership to better equip them to meet the challenges of life.

Values that the Cadets subscribe to are being Non-political, Non-racist, Non-sexist and Non-sectarian. They act without fear or favor in all their activities and uphold the following values Honesty, Loyalty, Morality, Respect, Obedience, Co-operation, Conservation and Unselfishness in all their dealings.
