Canyon Crest Community Council

Business:

State of the School Address: Dr. Darren Johnson addressed the audience giving the State of Canyon Crest report. Some of the items included in the report were an accounting of the Trustland Moneys, the Demographics of the school, enrollment trends, CRT achievements and great things about Canyon Crest and challenges we are facing. Questions were entertained. Inquiries were made into the success of the Arts Integration program and what we believe the projected enrollment will be.

Chari and Vice Chair: After a brief discussion of the duties of the chair and vice-chair, Stephenie Larsen nominated Justine Dorton to be chair. Alison Parker seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous in the affirmative. Stephenie Larsen then nominates Alison Parker as Vice-Chair. Justine Dorton seconds the nomination. The vote is unanimous in the affirmative.

By-Laws: The council, after a brief discussion, decided to add “Vice-Chair” to section 4 in the By Laws and change the date in section 5. Tamela Blake made the motion. Marci LeMonnier seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous in the affirmative.

Rules of Order: The council decided to adopted the Rules of Order for conducting council meetings. Jennifer Heldenbrand made the motion to accept this motion and Stephenie Larsen seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous in the affirmative.

Meeting Schedule: It was decided to continue to have School Community Meetings on the second Wednesdays of the month at 4:00 in the conference room. This schedule has already been posted.

Communication Protocol: The agenda for the SCC meeting will be posted on the school web site, the school window, and on facebook.

Trust Land Moneys Information: Dr. Johnson and Justine Dorton attended a meeting recently where they learned that 20% or $5000 of the Trust Land Moneys can go to civic or character education including student leadership skills training and/or positive behavior reinforcement.

Safe Routing: This year the SCC is not responsible for the safe routing plan.

Video: Everyone on the council needs to be sure and sign that they have viewed the DVD, Earning for Education.

Spanish Books: There is a great need for leveled books in the classrooms for boys and girls to practice reading in Spanish. Dr. Johnson is aware of this and is working on getting some. Justine is well aware of this need and will try to raise some money as she works towards the Spring Fling.

Ancestry: The 5th and 6th graders will visit Ancestry on November 11th. The students will be walking to Ancestry which will require the students to cross University Ave. Dr. Johnson will arrange for a policeman to assist with the crossing.

A vote was held to adjourn the meeting. The vote was unanimous in the affirmative. Next meeting will be on November 12 at 4:00.
