REPORT OF HEAD OF TRANSPORTATION SERVICES
TRANSPORTATION BUDGET 2011/12
- Purpose of Report
1.1To approve the committee’s programme of minor traffic items for the coming year.
2.Recommendation
2.1It is recommended that approval be given to implement the schemes in Paragraph 3.1
3.Information
3.1The Area Committee has a budget of £4,610 available for the coming financial year. The following item has been requested by residents through the Ward Councillor:
Location / Est Cost / ProposalAvalon / £1,000 / Extension of Waiting restrictions at the junction with Sandbanks Road
3.2Transportation Services Officers have been working closely with the Emergency Services and with Environmental and Consumer Protection Services (ECPS) to identify locations where their vehicles experience particular access difficulties. These access problems are for the most part caused by parking rather than road layout. It is recognised that kerbside parking is a highly valued resource amongst residents and so the study concentrated on locations where the difficulties were a regular occurrence.
3.3Clearly the service that encounters access problems on the most regular basis is the Refuse Collection service operated by ECPS, who have to visit every road at least once a week. ECPS are currently investigating the proposal to match any funding allocated by the Area Committees, and this has been reflected in the estimated costs shown in the table below.
3.4The Study identified several locations in this Committee’s area and these are listed below. The Study also prioritised the locations and only the first two ranked highly enough to justify immediate treatment in this financial year. The remaining locations will be considered in more detail and put forward later this year if funds allow.
