Thank you for your interest in becoming a Trustee of Darlington Citizens Advice Bureau. We ask all candidates for Trusteeship to complete this Application Form as part of the following process:

Stage / Purpose
Informal discussion / Before you submit an application you are welcome to contact the Chair or Chief Executive Officer for an informal discussion about the role or trustee and organisation:

Application form / An initial contact with Darlington Citizens Advice Bureau from which we gather information about you, your interest and the skills, experience and knowledge you have to offer.
Shortlisting / A panel of existing Trustees, including the Chair, considers your application and decides whether to offer you an interview
Interview / An interview with the panel of Trustees and the Chief Executive in attendance to provide an opportunity to explore your application in more detailand for you to ask questions.
References / Following your interview the panel will decide whether to pursue your application further and if so, and with your agreement, will contact the referees you have supplied
Invitation to attend a Board meeting / Subject to satisfactory references the panel will invite you to attend a Board meeting to give you an opportunity to experience the Board in action and introduce yourself to Trustees.
Co-option or election / If, following your attendance at a Board meeting you wish to be co-opted you may attend the next Board meeting and out yourself forward for formal co-options as a Trustee or, if the next meeting is an AGM, for formal election.

Personal skills and qualities for all Trustees

Each individual member of the Trustee Board brings skills and qualities to the Board. They add to the collective knowledge and experience by providing:

• commitment and availability to attend Bureau Trustee Board meetings

• effective communication skills and willingness to participate actively in discussion

• willingness to gain knowledge of local needs and resources

• commitment to the aims, principles and policies of the CAB service, including those relating to equal opportunities, independence and social policy

• willingness and ability to act in the best interests of the Bureau

• ability to understand and accept their responsibilities and liabilities as Trustees and employers

• willingness to participate in democratic process which develops CAAB policies by area and national

• numeracy to the extent required to understand CAB accounts with the support of a Treasurer

• willingness and ability to learn, and to develop and examine their own attitudes

• ability to think creatively and strategically, and exercise good, independent judgement

• ability to work effectively as a member of a team

Trustee Board Members are responsible for setting policy and agreeing strategies. You will need to commit to a number of board meetings throughout the year, and those of any committee of which you are a member.
