Candidate Bios

Gary Block

Gary is the Director of Real Estate atDukeUniversity and has managed a number of large physician groups during his career. Diagnosed with T1D about 1 ½ years ago Gary has a strong interest in supporting the work of JDRF. His experience in working with non-profit hospitals will be a valuable contribution to the Triangle/Eastern NC Chapter’s development efforts. Gary is married to Vicki Block and recently relocated to Raleigh from Hillsborough.

Heath Clayton

Heath is a Business Relationship Manager with SAS. Heath’s expertise in building relationships through his work at SAS and experience with the JDRF Hope Gala will help strengthen the work of the Triangle/Eastern NC Chapter. Heath is an outstanding photographer and for the past 3 years has donated his talents to photograph the Gala portraits and a number of JDRF events. Heath is married to Suzanne Clayton and has 4 year old twin sons Chance and Tasman. Chance was diagnosed with T1D on 9/18/09.

Patricia Deary

Patricia had a long career as a dental hygienist before stopping to raise her children. As an adult with T1D, Tricia brings a personalperspective of living with type 1 diabetes. Tricia was instrumental in championing the early Triangle/Eastern NC Chapter’s efforts to better engage adult type 1 individuals. Tricia is married to Richard Deary and they have two daughters, Peyton and Kathryn.

Jun Martz

Jun worked for 13 years as a Speech and Language Therapist for United Cerebral Palsy Early Intervention Program, evaluating infants at risk, counseling parents on stimulation techniques, and teaching non-verbal or severely language delayed children, from 18 months to five years of age. Jun’s long history of leading various non-profit efforts began with the Schuylkill Symphony Orchestra and now includes JDRF Outreach family events and Team Trini. Jun is married to Uzal Martz. Their son, Cameron and daughter in-law Dana live in the Triangle area with their granddaughter Trinity who was diagnosed with T1D in December 2009.

Sean Neally

Sean is the Director of Production Support for Novo Nordisk in Clayton. In addition to his work with Novo Nordisk, Sean is an active US Naval Reserve officer. Sean has more than 10 years of experience in leading teams within Novo Nordisk and his knowledge of diabetes treatment brings a new perspective tothe Triangle/Eastern NC Chapter. Sean participated in the JDRF Ride to Cure Diabetes and looks forward to serving with Development for the Triangle/Eastern NC Chapter.

Antonio J. O’Ferral

Antonio is the SE Regional Sales Manger for Insulet Corporation, the makers of OmniPod. His years of work with Insulet have provided insight into some of the equipment needs of families with type 1 diabetes. Antonio has volunteered with the YMCA, ADA, Susan B. Koman and other organizations in addition to his support of the JDRF Triangle/Eastern NC Chapter Outreach events and the Statewide Family Retreat.

Gary Jewell

Gary is a former JDRF Triangle/Eastern NC Chapter Board member returning to serve JDRF once again. Gary joined Pittard, Perry & Crone as a shareholder in 2010 after many years of his own CPA practice. Gary served as VP of Finance for the Chapter and his experience in many non-profit organizations, including Junior Achievement, where he taught entrepreneurship for more than 12 years and as director for His Image Ministries. Gary’s daughter Jessica, an ECU student, was diagnosed more than 10 years ago and inspires his passion for JDRF.
