2012 Conference Objectives
CRAD Conference Attendees will be able to:
•Define the role of the Cancer Liaison Physician & identify the primary & secondary responsibilities of the CLP.
•Observe various breast cancers & treatments through the eyes of a surgeon.
•Explain the principles behind the use of radiation in the treatment of neoplastic disease; follow the Radiation Therapy planning & treatment process from the time of consultation through the treatment course; & will be able to identify terminology associated with state of the art treatment techniques.
•Become familiar will the layout and function of the 2012 Hematopoietic Data Base; learn to use the Data Base efficiently and effectively; learn to use the data to facilitate accurate abstracting of hematopoietic and lymphoid neoplasms; become familiar with the new and previous hematopoietic & lymphoid neoplasm MP and PH rules; understand how and when to use the hematopoietic & lymphoid neoplasm multiple primary, primary site and histology, & grade rules; learn to use the manual efficiently to facilitate accurate abstracting of hematopoietic & lymphoid neoplasms.

2012 Conference Objectives
CRAD Conference Attendees will be able to:
• Understand & apply the correct surgical LN codes & grades per FORDS 2012 changes.
• Will become aware of the differences between CS v02.03 & CS v02.04 that have become effective for 2012 cases.
• Learn how to use Metriq software functionality to re-engineer cancer registry workflows; demonstrate functions used in the re-design; discuss data field usage; recognize the steps necessary to establish concurrent cancer case abstraction for a cancer registry; using management strategies to achieve team buy in; discuss steps in the implementation process; discuss meeting RQRS requirements vs. total concurrent workflows; gain insight into the benefits achieved through concurrent case abstraction; show changes in data usage patterns; raising the bar to increase cancer registry value.
• Emphasize ways to prevent injury in workplace environments encountered by Cancer Registrars, leading to a healthier workplace and lifestyle.

Carol Hahn-Johnson, BS, CTR
Carol Hahn Johnson is a private consultant recently retired from the senior consultant position for the Quality Improvement team in the Surveillance Research Program within the Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) at the National Cancer Institute. As the senior consultant, her work had been centered on developing specifications for computerized applications to improve the quality of the data set, developing comprehensive reporting criteria and rules for determining multiple primary tumors, and coding histology for hematopoietic, lymphoid, and solid tumor neoplasms.
Carol Hahn Johnson earned her Bachelor of Science degree at Minot State University in Minot, North Dakota. Prior to working at the NIH, she worked in the Standards Department of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer and in hospital-based cancer registries.
Mary J. Milroy, MD, FACS
Dr Milroy is Board Certified in Surgery; received her doctorate from the University of South Dakota School of Medicine in Vermillion, SD, completed her internship at Highland General Hospital in Oakland CA, United States Public Health Service, Commissioned Corps & her residency at the Integrated Program in General Surgery at Michigan State University. She specializes in Breast Surgery. Dr Milroy is also a Clinical Associate Professor at the Sanford School of Medicine of the University of South Dakota & serves on the SD Commission on Cancer & the SD Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan.
Laura O’Neill
Laura O’Neill currently serves at Avera Queen of Peace Cancer Center as their Medical Physicist. She is also teaching Physics for Radiation Therapy at Mitchell Technical Institute. Ms. O’Neill has 24 years of experience in the field of Radiological Physics. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Texas A&M University in Radiation Protection Engineering and her Master of Science Degree in Radiological Science from the University of Oklahoma Health Science Center. Laura’s research was in the early investigational uses of Radiolabelled Monoclonal Antibodies for therapeutic applications. Laura has worked in various aspects of the field, including radiation protection, diagnostic imaging physics, nuclear medicine physics and radiation therapy physics. She is currently focused primarily in radiation therapy. Laura has worked with hospitals and cancer centers in Oklahoma, Kansas, Louisiana, and Texas including several years at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Ms. O’Neill is certified by the American Board of Radiology in Medical Physics and is licensed by the state of Texas.
Carol Person, MS, RHIA
Carol Person is the Executive Director of Health Information Management for Sanford Health-Sioux Falls Region. Located in the upper Midwest, Sanford Health is the largest rural not-for-profit health care system in the nation. Carol holds a Master’s degree in Management with a concentration in Information Technology from Colorado Technical University and a Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management from the College of St. Mary in Omaha, NE.
Sanford Health has recently completed implementation of a multi-year system-wide project to deploy an electronic health record throughout its health system. Carol’s responsibilities include oversight of health information management services for Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD and for the fourteen leased and owned hospitals within the Sanford Health Network – Sioux Falls Region. Additionally, Carol and her team provide consultative support for five managed facilities within the Sioux Falls Region. Sanford USD Medical Center began its cancer registry in 1983 and automated its cancer data abstraction in 1985. Carol is a member of several Health Information Management related organizations and has spoken at regional and national conferences on electronic health records and cancer registry related topics.
Emily Whiting, MS, ATC
Emily is a Registrar at the Avera Cancer Institute in Sioux Falls, where she has worked since February 2011, and will be taking the CTR exam in the Spring of 2013. Prior to coming to Avera, Emily worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer at Augustana College in Sioux Falls for 7 ½ years specializing in the treatment of athletic injuries for female athletes and teaching college courses in the areas of health, fitness, and the prevention and evaluation of athletic injuries. She received her Master’s degree in Athletic Training from Indiana State University and her Bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training and Exercise Science from Augustana College. Emily has worked with active people of all ages, and has participated in many activities to help educate the community about topics related to health and fitness, as well as served as a consultant for various businesses in Sioux Falls on workplace safety and ergonomics.
