Canada C3 Code of Conduct

Canada C3 is a signature project for Canada 150.It is a journey to celebrate Canada and connect Canadians from Coast to Coast to Coast, and is focused on the themes of reconciliation, youth engagement, diversity and inclusion, and the environment.

As a member of the Canada C3 expedition team you are an Ambassador for Canada, and are on board Canada C3 to play an important role representing your community, province, profession, partner organization, friends and family. You are the eyes, ears and voices helping to share the Canada C3 journey with millions of Canadians, as well as people around the World.

To ensure that the Canada C3 expedition is successful and safe, the following Code of Conduct has been established. The success of Canada C3 will be greatly enhanced by the responsible behaviour of everyone involved. Please take some time to carefully read and consider the expectations outlined below.

C3 Team Member Expectations

There are no ‘passengers’ on board Canada C3! Everybody on board (crew, staff, participants) aremembers of the big Canada C3 team and family. You understand this is not a cruise. It is a unique journey on which you are playing an important role. We need you to bring your passion, spirit, positivity, good karma, ideas and stories to share and contribute!Everyone is expected to fully participate in the daily program activities and events, and help out, pitch in, when and where needed!

Safety

All C3 participants, staff and crew are expected to understand and abide by the safety guidelines established for the ship and the expedition. This includes safety precautions both on and off our expedition vessel. Safety briefings will be conducted to ensure all participants are well informed and prepared.

Community Interaction

We will be guests in the communities that Canada C3 will visit, and we ask that your actions, language and interactions be respectful and positive. We want to give more than we receive, make lots of new friendships from coast to coast to coast, and leave a wonderful, lasting impression as a Canada C3 legacy.

Respect and trust

We expect all Canada C3 journey participants, staff and crew to work together as a team in the spirit of respect and trust. No acts of disrespectful behaviour towards other participants, staff, crew, or community members will be tolerated. We need to look out for one another.

Flexibility is the Key

After over 20 years and over 100 expeditions, we have learned that flexibility is one of the cornerstones to a successful mission. We have plans and schedules, but they will undoubtedly change due to weather, ice, opportunities… and 90% of the time Plan B or C is better than Plan A. We ask that you embrace this spirit and go with the flow.

Health

A healthy ship is a happy ship! And we want to have both and need everyone’s full cooperation. Eating well, drinking lots of water, getting enough sleep, good daily personal hygiene, and a safety first attitude are key components to a healthy lifestyle at sea.

Environmental Impact

We will strive to minimise the environmental impact the Canada C3 expedition may have during our journey. We will take many steps to ensure that our footprint is as small as possible, and will brief all Canada C3 participants on the measures and protocols throughout the expedition. All Canada C3 participants, staff and crew are expected to help and lead by example.

Personal Technological Devices

We live in a media and technology saturated world and we hope the C3 journey will allow you to disconnect from your cell phone and computer for a few days, or at least use them a lot less! This will allow us to better connect to all the experiences, opportunities, places and people. We expect that Internet service will be available via satellite throughout most of the C3 journey, but not at all times. The primary need for this service is to enable our C3 communications strategy to share our journey with millions of Canadians each day. Participants, staff and crew can use the Internet for email and/orsocial media. Streaming, downloading videos, or large files will not be permitted, unless for important needs.

Cabins

The sleeping cabins on board the C3 vessels are mostly all double occupancy (two beds). It is very important to respect your ‘cabin mate’, and keep your cabin clean and organized.

Illicit Drugs

A strict ‘no illicit drug policy’ will be in place throughout the entire expedition. This policy will be strictly enforced at all times.

Alcohol

There is a bar on board the Canada C3 vessel lounge, which will be open in the evening, and wine/ beer will be available at dinner for Canada C3 participants. Responsible drinking in moderation is permitted, however excessive drinking will not be tolerated.

Smoking
Cigarette smoking during the expedition is only permitted in the designated smoking area on the outer deck.

------

I have carefully read this Canada C3 Code of Conduct and fully understand, accept and enthusiastically agree to its terms as participant on the Canada C3 journey.
