Minutes of Young Governors Meetings Date: 31/01/2017

Matters for Discussion / Notes / Actions
1) Apologies for Absence / Charlie has now left the school therefore class 8 will be re-electing ASAP
2) School Matters / Suggestions boxes made by YG are beautiful – a photo of some can be seen on website. Many suggestions already made by classes for YG to action. (Please see below)
Miss Williams met with Carole Simpson, a Governor at the school and a Beanstalk Reader volunteer. Mrs Simpson would love to be our link governor for SMSC and will meet the Young Governors very soon.
Miss Williams met with Alison Prentice, the leader of the Dungeness Power Station Visitor Centre. Mrs Prentice has brought news of a National Competition run by EDF Energy as part of ‘Waste Week’ . The competition is to design and make something new from old gardening equipment and tools as part of ‘upcycling’ unwanted waste. The winning school gets a £300 Amazon Gift Voucher and this could also be an opportunity to work towards the improvement of our outdoor area.
The closing date is March 10th 2017

This is a fantastic website with lots of information and resources to educate children about sustainability. / The Young Governors will be asking classes how they would like to enter the competition. The options are as follows:
·  Home Learning activity (optional)
·  Whole school project (i.e. one sculpture/equipment etc.)
·  Class projects as part of DT curriculum with chosen piece from 11 classes to put forward to ‘judges’. Winning class piece goes forward for National Competition.
Please decide as a class with your teacher and we will then start plans for this exciting opportunity.
3)Community Work / Miss Williams is continuing to plan a visit to a local care home however, plans for a particular place is no longer convenient. This may be delayed until later in the year.
4) Charity Work / We have been approached by Mr and Mrs Dale (Parents) about another exciting opportunity. The family have close links with the Marie Curie charity and have been given a donation of 850 daffodil bulbs by Tenterden Garden Centre. The Young Governors decided as a team that they would like the daffodils to be planted within the school grounds to bring some yearly spring colour and to form an area where many learning opportunities can take place. / Miss Williams will arrange with Mr and Mrs Dale.
