Overview of Our Program

inMotion is a component within the Campus Recreation Center run through the Student Union Corporation that strives to provide healthy, effective alternatives to standard workouts. In addition, group fitness classes provide the support needed to serve as a vehicle to exercise adherence. inMotion emphasizes the importance of healthy lifestyles by providing group fitness and dance classes for SSU students, staff, faculty, and membership holders.

inMotion classes are only offered during the Fall and Spring semesters of the academic school year. inMotion group fitness instructors on staff are typically SSU students, although the position is open to all. Beginning Spring 2009, all of our group fitness instructors hold a certification in primary group fitness, or in the specific class they teach.

Classes offered through inMotion vary upon semester, however the following are some examples of classes we’ve offered during past semesters: yoga (several disciplines), pilates, dance (several styles/techniques), cardio kickboxing, spin, abs/buns/thighs, body sculpting/toning, step aerobics, boot camp, and self-defense. Variations of the previously mentioned classes have been held through inMotion, and we encourage individuals applying for an instructor position to suggest new classes.

Participation in the inMotion program is open to all fitness levels, shapes, and sizes! Aside from “Free-Week” or other complimentary promotions, participants must purchase a pass in order to attend an inMotion class. Passes may be purchased at the Front Desk of the Recreation Center. Furthermore, a waiver must be signed prior to participation. Due to the concern for our participants’ safety, those who are not properly dressed for exercise may not participate in the class.

Overall, inMotion is designed to offer participants a safe, welcoming atmosphere in which they can enjoy fitness and health with the support of their peers, our instructors, and the coordinators.
